Default Re: What would you do if you won $47 Million?

To be perfectly honest, here's what I'd do.

- Quit job
- Rent out reception hall for baller-ass party
- Pay off mortgage (approx $190,000)
- Buy Ducati
- Invest

My parents don't need any money, why should I give them any? I guess I could pay off their mortgage so my dad could retire... maybe I'd do that. But a stipend seems dumb.

Also I might stake pizownored for NL2000, but I'd expect a return on that investment.

The reason I decided on a stipend is that it sets a precedent. It's predictable. Everyone knows what they get every year and on what date (Jan. 1). You are setting the terms from the get-go.

Perhaps I would actually say $10K the first year, and whatever inflation turns $10K into with each subsequent year. That makes sense. Handing out $10K in 2026 would make Guids mad.

Im not being ignorant, but my argument doesnt change much between 50 mill and 20 mill, I still give my parents 5 mill to live for the rest of their lives off of. My parents taught me to work hard for my money, and I do, they also taught me to be generous and respectful enough to not insult them by thinking that anything over 20 thousand dollars is going to go to their heads.

If I won:

I'd quit my job.

Move to somewhere nice (I currently live in Memphis).

Buy 2-3 homes in exotic or fun places (NYC, Florida, etc.)

Buy a car.

Give my parents enough money to retire (shouldn't be all that much)

Have a party.

Invest the rest.

Play poker and go clubing for the next couple of years around the world with a couple of my friends.

Eventually settle down and work on investments and maybe get a job that really interests me. Maybe buy my own business or something.

I actually think you're being generous, but in a weird way.

A stipend like this feels too structured and demeaning somehow.

See, this sort of language makes it seem like everyone will just be frothing at the mouth over your money. Like you're doing it this way with structured payments to keep everyone under control.

If your friends and family are reasonable, they'll be happy with whatever you decide to give them, whenever you decide to give it. People that aren't should be cut out of your life anyway.

I'm not sure what I would do, but it would be nothing like your list. I have to say that you're one of the last people I would hope wins that much money.

"Also, I would not tell them this, but I would make it a point to spend fairly freely around them. They would definitely benefit from being in my presence."

Wow. Good job sounding like a cocky prick. Would you want them to address you as, "your majesty"?

"I will contact family and friends from overseas and inform them of when I will be coming back to the States to visit. Or maybe I don't contact them. Not sure."

Real nice. Leave for a month and don't contact your friends or family. What a caring guy you are.

Me and you WW would get a long nicely, thats about teh way I would roll. Except I have about 5 or 6 friends and we made a pact if anyone ever wins over 35 mill, we have to buy the car of their choice under 500k which has already been predetermined. So Id have to get a GT40, some kind of Lambo, a GT500, an S600, and the Batmobile before I could get anything else.

Awesome

Hell yea guids, you would be welcome to come party with me any time you wanted to. I would also hold weekly contests for OOT with prizes of 500 bucks to keep some of you from BUSTO.

I would also buy all of you a lifetime membership to a porn site of your choice... And Gamble would be a skinny mo'fo

I guess it's time to work on my 2500th post... mmmm hot chicks coming up in the next few days!

PS - dammit, all of this day-dreaming has left me depressed as hell cuz I'm [censored] poor as a mother [censored]

God Dammit

I'd host a worldwide talent search to see how many women could actually do this:

5 million for the "rest of their lives"? How old are they? 26?? WTF? My parents are in their mid-50's. I'm pretty sure they could manage through the last 30 years on less than $5MM.

As it is, I speak to my parents about twice a month and I live 15 miles away. My friends are lucky to get a phonecall returned as I'm frequently a lazy bas.tard.
