Alright, if that's how you want to have this forum, then I understand.

Mat- Would you consider mine over the line? I know it's not exceptionally tasteful, but it shouldn't offend anyone, and it's pretty funny. Obvioiusly, I'd like to keep it, but if it is over the line, I will change it because I enjoy posting in this forum.

No, not exactly. My post will appear below yours, indented, showing that I have replied to you. However, another poster looks like he has replied to you, yet he is responding to the OP.

Ah, well, that's because you're working in threaded mode. Flat mode works much better, especially because so many people use Quick Reply.

Any comments about toning down avatars can be made here.

Since I'm the new kid on the block, so to say, I wouldn't ask or expect 2+2 to change to suit my tastes.

I did choose not to load 2+2 on one of the machines while waiting in an Apple store because of the avatar content. I also have a young teenage son who really doesn't need to see it.

A simple solution. I set Firefox to load images from original site only. Avatars no longer show up. (If you want to see a graph or picture someone posted, you toggle it back on in preferences.)

Management of the site has the right to decide acceptable site content. The rest of us are guests here.

Mat

Fair enough, although I do disagree.

I think the reason that some of you disagree is because this forum means different things to different people. And for those of you who see this as say a place for food and drink threads or movie reviews, you don't want (i'm guessing) there to be an air of exclusivity. You guys (i think) want to attract more people to the discussions without them having to worry about a silly "dress code".

The thing is, these more specific forums are so vehemently objected to, that the best we could do was come up with this compromise called the lounge. And I do believe that sprouting from this place will come a food and drink forum etc. in the future. But in the meantime, I want the lounge to have its own identity. And as far as I'm concerned the lounge has been defined by this thread.

This is the level of discourse I strive for in this lounge. Let's give it a shot. We always have room for change.

All, please welcome MrWookie to the mod roster here.

And also here's hoping Madtown returns sometime soon, and that he's okay, wherever he is.

MrWookie will be paying special attention to food and drink, but carrying out any other modly duties as necessary.

Here's my advice....let...the wookie...win.

Thanks for the introduction. I'm also going to be watching the political threads pretty closely. Since some political threads are going to be allowed here on a trial basis, I think all the mods will be watching things closely. Anything that gets heated and ugly will be promptly locked, not in the name of censorship, but because this is the Lounge, not the town square. I think DB's decree banning posts on the Middle East is a good one, and I'd encourage other politically minded posters to avoid inflammatory subjects.
