The front cover isn't horrible like so many claim. On the back I think David's photo is fantastic, Ed's had better photos (I like the long hair look for him better). Visually I don't like the quote blocks on the back cover, I think they could have been better integrated into the design but the trade off is that Greg's quote wouldn't pop as much so I understand their validity.

Some thoughts for future covers:

1) TOP is a design that players world wide know for excellence in theory. HOH is a design that is 2+2's top seller (which is interesting because i didn't like it at first). I'd tend to lead towards these two title's designs conceptually when you release advanced books.

2) Since David is the Professor or Teacher, the foremost theoretical thinker, and Ed is the Noted Poker Authority, I like the idea of creating a classroom environment on future book covers from the pairing. The cover below really appeals to me as a consumer and a player who is always trying to learn, its something I'd pick up as an impulse buy (which I tend to do more than you would expect for poker titles that are not as well known).

I met this guy last September at the WPDG. It was my understanding that he is a really good player. Is this book out and does anyone have a review?

Sorry for the thread hijack.

To me personally it’s a whole lot of subtle things that were altered that really change the cover.

1)Re-arrangement and kerning of copy.

2)Shadowing and color adjustments(I realize this is a pre-prod cover)

3)Alterations on chips, which I think it is a good idea but it looks like it was obviously done by an amateur. The placement of new labels ends up ruining the aspect view of the chips. And actually gives a ghost hover affect on the chips.

4)Change of back jacket concept(I realize you wanted to put in those blocks of info, and the headshots), I just like his clean back layout better.

I think his version was much more dramatic and was a lot cleaner looking, to me this new rev. looks like a bad copy of what he did.

Maybe I am being a nit about it, but I reviewed every rev. of the cover.

At the last minute when the WSOP tourney chips were not to be used and the new chips had to be shot, we scrambled around to find someone, so he wasn’t putting penny eBay dice chips on the cover.

I’m a design snob, and Mark is my friend and has done all design work for my business.
I was just very disappointed to see what he had done turned into what I think is a shell of the original work.

It’s like me taking the manuscript giving it to Ken Warren and letting him make some changes to your writing.

--Speaking of the chips thanks to JoJoBinks @ ChipTalk, and the guy who created the Pharoh’s chips that were able to come through on a weekend to get new quality chips to be shot for the cover.

I remember the original design submitted by traceone for the gsih contest. It was really sharp, its a shame this one doesn't capture what he originally did.

Wow, looks like you're the new Paul Rand. I would change the copy from "more better learning" to "mo' bettor learning".

The cover, meh, it's ok, not exactly a breath taking work of art but at least decent.

The content of the book will be mind blowing I'm sure, which is why I already pre-ordered it before the cover was known.

It could be a picture of two guys making out on top of a dead horse and I'd still have gotten it (feel free to use this idea for future books)

Can somebody change the font on this and do something with the hand so that it is not half invisible? We may be on to something here...

Amazon has it coming out in September. I also know Angel teaches at a poker "boot camp" in Las Vegas.

Personally, I think David and Ed could take a dump on the cover and we'd all still want it.

Who that posts here is going to judge the book by anything but what's inside?

Hi Turn:

That's great to hear, but it's also not our market. We've been publishing for almost 20 years and we do know what our market is.

best wishes,
