Warning - this is a windbag post; I actually wrote a longer one, quick reply ate it, I tried to summarize and more or less failed. Sorry.
Great job gobbo! I followed the sweat thread and rooted for you (and shane) the whole way and I think it is incredible that you played that well on such a big stage in the pca and this event, and that you did it at 19 with barely any live poker experience. Shaniac's attitude toward tournament/poker results is one I want to emulate, and I believe that if gobbo had more of shane's attitude, he'd be less inclined to worry about the bad luck headsup and more inclined to be thankful for good luck earlier and happy that his overall good play resulted in a second place finish. This doesn't mean he didn't "deserve" to win, only that if you want to say "deserved", then a bunch of people deserved to win, including shane (don't forget how he went out), and only one can. But that's the way every tournament goes, a bunch of people leave with what might have been and one person wins, and many of the might have beens win a lot of money too. When you're one of the might have beens and you finish second, that's still pretty awesome. Second requires a ton of skill and some well-timed luck. There is absolutely nothing even the best player in the world can do to guarantee a win. Gobbo when you read this, please don't see it as a negative post; I just hope you realize how awesome second in the aussie millions is, and don't think you blew it (you didn't) or that you got unjustifably unlucky (poker doesn't work that way). You did everything in your power to win, but you lost, and the bad luck part of that is just part of the game; just like the good luck that helped get you there is part of the game and you don't have to apologize to anyone for that. You played very well. Be proud of that, and be happy about the result, and know that next time you get there you'll play even better because of this experience. I know you know all this already; I guess I just wanted to hear myself talk. aejones get over yourself please. Have some [censored] humility. At the very least respect that a lot of very good poker players post here, win a lot of money playing MTTs (and cash games), and think about the game as deeply as you do. Thayer, Don, and I carried your ass in that competition. You're a good cash game player, better than me, and seem like an ok guy, but after reading you say this [censored] again I wish I'd drafted a 4/180s grinder instead, who even if he barely helped us, would at least have earned and appreciate the prize money we won for you. This isn't a hold-a-grudge confrontation or me thinking I'm better than you or something. I'd say it to your face and be done with it and buy you a beer. But seriously, dude; think about how you come off. The funny thing is there's some truth is what you say, but the way you say it is so messed up that it's ruined. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] haralabos voulgaris needs to die, seriously just insulting gobbo cause he ran good in a few pots that day, im sure haralabos NEVER had a day where he ran really good and NEVER made a move with a draw and hit, only fish do that, he is just such a dick that cant get over the fact that he donked off his chip lead [/ QUOTE ] You guys are huge panzies. Y'all want to have it both ways--being able to boast about how awesome you are, how dominating you play, and how special it is when one of us goes deep in a tournament...you want to be able to say 'ship it' and 'look at me', but you act like nitty pussies whenever anyone says anything that is less than adulatory...We play for big stakes and we don't have to all hold hands and get along throughout...I know that Haralabos has an abrasive personality (and youtube sucks here, so I don't know what he said exactly), but the way you guys react is just babyish and lame. [/ QUOTE ] you should listen to it somewhere, at the end of the video he just sits there personally insulting gobbo, haralabos said something about how he would rather be a midstack at the FT, so the guy asks "would you rather be gus or gobbo or mark karam etc." and he says "well, i'd rather be anyone than gobboboy" and says something about he is "one messed up kid" and something about him playing magic the gathering and dungeons and dragons, then asks if they will edit that part out of the video [/ QUOTE ] I respect the opinion you have shane, but FS is right. I'm not saying that haralobous isn't entilted to his own opinion, but moreso he is a douchebag for judging gobbo on a personal level on an interview viewed by tons of people. I get a vibe off this situation that is kind of high schoolish in how he is picking on gobbo. With gobbo just being 19 and newer to playing poker live on the circut with immediate success might give haralobous a slight motive to put him down for whatever reason. My point is, it's very tasteless and classless to say what he said. I will stand up for anyone who insults a good friend of mine (gobbo) every day of the week. In my eyes, your point of how tempers flare when playing for high stakes and suckouts happen etc. is perfectly agreeable. I just think it's no reason to bash someone who has done nothing personally to haralabos. Could you ever picture yourself calling someone a "messed up kid" after busting out of a tournament shane? Obviously not b/c you are a class act and it's what adds to your character that haraloubos lacks in his. |
