[ QUOTE ] RJ, so you really like ManU and Barca? [/ QUOTE ] and reading and atletico madrid, yes. fwiw i got into football after seeing the 2005 CL final(liverpool/ac milan) perhaps the best game in any sport ive ever seen. i started watching youtube videos and developed severe mancrushes on wayne rooney and lionel messi. this is why im a barca/manu fan. im an even bigger barca fan after understanding the history and political climate surrounding them(after reading "barca: a peoples passion" on jaredL's [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] recommendation) i never played youth soccer and hadnt touched a soccer ball until 2 months ago. since then ive trained every day and have been asked to join 3 club teams, but our schedules didnt work. my game is completely based off of watching a billion videos of messi play and understanding how he dribbles, moves, sees the field and rooneys power in one on one situations. my left foot is my biggest liability by far, but i spend hours shooting with my right and can hit the bar over and over from outside the box and bore my girlfriend with tales of whatever game i played in/watched that day. i am absouletely deep in love with soccer. rj [/ QUOTE ] also here is how I "know so much about you" |

[/ QUOTE ] I don't see what the big deal is for anybody here. Topno found it odd that RJ is hoping for a Liverpool win, kdawg wrote something similar. RJ responded by saying he bought a ManU shirt 10 years ago. Topno then apologized and said that buying a shirt doesn't make you a supporter. What's the big deal? It's clear that RJ is a ManU supporter. It's also clear that buying a shirt doesn't make you a supporter. BTW being a fan for only a short period of time and not being from the area where your team is causes the oddity. As you may know I am a grad student in Pittsburgh but used to live in Oregon. I have been cheering for the Steelers since I got here. I don't really feel any strong dislike for Cleveland, the city or its football team. They have been terrible the whole time I've been here so I don't really have a reason to hate them. I do dislike the Ravens, mainly because of all the [censored] that they talk. I think it would be similar for someone moving to Eugene within the last 10 years or so. I wouldn't expect them to have anywhere near the hatred I do for the Huskies. |

Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but Freddy Adu is currently on a 2 week trial with Manchester United and will probably sign with United if Sir Alex likes what he sees.

BTW being a fan for only a short period of time and not being from the area where your team is causes the oddity [/ QUOTE ]I agree with this and believe me, I understand it completely. My only qualm with the statement "buying a jersey doesn't make you a supporter" is that generally if someone buys a teams jerseys, they are doing it because they are a supporter. Obviously there are exceptions, such as a Yankees cap. Maybe in england, or around the world, ManU gear is trendy. I dunno, is it? If so, I could see why he made that statement. But I would have to say that if someone is watching a team play, and posting about a team, you can assume that if they bought a jersey they are a fan. |

He tried to say that because he bought a jersey in 97 that means something... when he admitted earlier that he just started becoming a fan after the 04 season... also stating that for the first time in his life he was rooting for Liverpool... It's great he's following the game and it's great that you are craka... but the statements just don't jive and I was pointing that out...
by all means follow ManU and Arsenal they are the teams that play the best football in the prem by a longshot and we all know it's a beautiful game when played |

Top, I have watched tons of soccer games this year, and man, I am so glad I picked Arsenal because as you said, they play some of the best football, anywhere. Some of the other top teams play such boring looking football, and if I had to watch them play every week I would have to stab my eyeballs.

my point was that i rooted for them in 1997, i liked soccer for awhile, we stopped getting games on tv, i stopped caring very much. then 2 years ago i saw an amazing game, got back into it and liked the team i used to like. im just wondering what is expected. should i go back in time to before i was born, have my parents move to manchester so i can appease message board guy? i wanted liverpool to win because i have a bet that ManU will finish in the top 2 and i think arsenal is a bigger threat than liverpool. thats pretty much it. buying a shirt generally would mean that someone at least likes the team i would imagine. i dont just go buy random things without reason usually. fwiw i really dont like arsenal at all, i was just commenting on a strange situation where i was rooting for our arch rival because of the order of the standings. theres no animosity, the original comment just seemed like standard "lol noob" crap that is generally kind of retarded.
