There are Izzy apologists? [/ QUOTE ] I definitely remember people bringing up the fact that Izzy isn't that bad and he gets the job done. Ask any Cardinal fan and they will tell you that he rarely ever pitches a ninth inning without walking at least one batter. Rarely gets a first pitch over for a strike, and even if he does get ahead of a batter it won't be long before the count is full. |

Great idea Jockety [/ QUOTE ] Jocketty has made a lot of great moves. I don't blame him. I'm sure if Jocketty was coaching the team, Izzy would not be closing anymore. LaRussa needs to wake up and stop sending this guy out there in the ninth. I'd put Pujols out on the mound before Izzy. At least he would have his head in the game and would probably be able to avoid walking ten guys an inning. |

This is just sickening. Reminds me of when Izzy was hurt in 2003 and there was no replacement. Hell, it was so bad that it allowed the Cubs to win the division.
Izzy was overpaid anyway...time to axe him. |

[ QUOTE ]
has any playoff team ever replaced its closer this late in the season? because it sure makes a lot of sense here. [/ QUOTE ] White Sox just last season with Bobby Jenks. Angels/Francisco Rodriguez might be a possibility, the details of when he dominated for the first time in the playoffs are a little fuzzy... And the fact that there isn't a real good option behind Isringhausen is the biggest deterrent from removing him from the closer's role. |

I would seriously rather see Tavarez and King out there in the ninth.

[/ QUOTE ] i should have clarified that i'm looking for a closer who was replaced due to ineffectiveness rather than injury (hermanson). k-rod wasn't closing in '02; percival was still around. izzy is still available at the bargain price of 10-1 to win the nl cy young at sportsbook.com. |

answer: they're not closing anymore [/ QUOTE ] Wait, so you mean to tell me that other teams' managers look at actual player performance and make decisions best for the club based on that knowledge?! A-mazing!!! |

You can't rack up those kind of numbers if you're not playing!
