I definitely remember people bringing up the fact that Izzy isn't that bad and he gets the job done. Ask any Cardinal fan and they will tell you that he rarely ever pitches a ninth inning without walking at least one batter. Rarely gets a first pitch over for a strike, and even if he does get ahead of a batter it won't be long before the count is full.

Jocketty has made a lot of great moves. I don't blame him. I'm sure if Jocketty was coaching the team, Izzy would not be closing anymore. LaRussa needs to wake up and stop sending this guy out there in the ninth. I'd put Pujols out on the mound before Izzy. At least he would have his head in the game and would probably be able to avoid walking ten guys an inning.

This is just sickening. Reminds me of when Izzy was hurt in 2003 and there was no replacement. Hell, it was so bad that it allowed the Cubs to win the division.

Izzy was overpaid anyway...time to axe him.

White Sox just last season with Bobby Jenks.

Angels/Francisco Rodriguez might be a possibility, the details of when he dominated for the first time in the playoffs are a little fuzzy...

And the fact that there isn't a real good option behind Isringhausen is the biggest deterrent from removing him from the closer's role.

i should have clarified that i'm looking for a closer who was replaced due to ineffectiveness rather than injury (hermanson).

k-rod wasn't closing in '02; percival was still around.
