hey guys

im kinda bored with everything atm so im thinkin of droppin out of uni for a year or two and goin to live somewhere else. I wont b takin alot of stuff with me, and ill b usin poker to support myself, so all i need is a casino and an internet connection. I'm just really bored with everythin atm, and not liking uni so i wanna change it up abit. oh, im currently living in perth, australia.

so ssnl, is this the stupidest idea ever? or should i go for it? Also, recommendations on where to live? I'm not sure whether it'd b better to live in 1 place for a year, or like keep moving around, like spending 3 months or so in each place.

do it do it do it,

contrary to what other have said though i think it's a bit harder to travel and then come back to studies. This time last year i was having one of the best times of my life with all my mates in Banff, Canada. Comparing that with yesterday where i spent 5 hours stuck in uni doing thermodynamics coursework.

Every person is different it just depends how you handle it

SpecT, I'd go for it. If I were in your spot, I'd probably go to Thailand. I haven't been there yet myself, but just try reading some of fish2plus2/KKF's threads and you'll understand why.

I don't know if you've read it yet, but this thread by adsman is a must-read as well.

If you want, I can write some about what I've done, but the most important bit of advice I can give you: go. Just go. Good things will happen.

[ QUOTE ]
what else do you call someone who drops out of college?

[/ QUOTE ]
This is very shortsighted. Not everyone is meant for college and a career. It took me three years to accept that, mostly because of friends and family spouting this same line over and over. I finally dropped out indefinitely the beginning of this year, and it's been one of the best decisions of my life. I've met a few people over the last years that I really admire. None of them are rich or successfull by conventional standards. None of them have finished college. But they are happy and they bring happiness to the people around them. I wish you could see me talking right now, because just my memories of them are making my face light up. I wish to be like them. College is no part of that.

If your not feeling college at the momment (and not doing well) I see no reason not to take some time off.

I went to college just because I was supposed to. Honestly, I wasn't ready. I was academically ready, but I wasn't very mature and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. At the same time there was a lot of presure to pick a major and set a life course. I dealt with this pressure by tanking, booze, and drugs. I ended up with a 5 Fs during my second semester and the school told me to take some time off.

I ended up getting a dead end job and working it for 1-year. I didn't mind the work so much or the lack of money. What did bother me is that I wasn't being intellectual stimulalted in any way.

I decided to go back to school and take a few classes that interested me. In this period there was no emphasis on getting a degree or a job - just stimulating my mind satisfying my intellectual curiousity. To make a long story short, I ended up back in school full time, and graduated 4-years later summa cum laude (at the time they let me retake the courses I failed and replace the grades). I then went st8 into a doctoral program in economics earned a Ph.D. I am now a professor at a major research university.

If your not feeling it - take some time off. You can come back when your ready. The ages 18-22 are very difficult (especially for men) because everyone expects us to be grown up, but most of use are not (or in my case were not).

As for the playing poker professionally - I see no problem with it as long as you have some savings and you know you can beat the game. Personally, I would get lonely traveling by myself and playing online poker - but to each his own.

thankyou for all your responses so far, i feel like ive got alot of advice, from both sides of the argument.

thatd b good if u could do that jigsaw. even just a little spiel about your experiences would be awsome.

ive been thinking about it abit more, and ive lived a pretty sheltered life, like never really took many risks or anything. I think that another reason y i want to do this is to throw myself into the deep end, and force myself to get some life experiences. i mean, i dont really know how to open a bank account, or talk to strangers, or basic things like that, because for my whole life these things have been done for me. Of course im gunna make alot of mistakes along the way, but this'll help me learn.

note: im not just gunna go from living this 'sheltered life' to living by myself in an unknown country in one quick step. the plan is, im going skiing in new zealand in a month and abit with just friends, and this'll b the first big holiday ive been on without parents. then ill go to melbourne for a month or two where there's afew ppl i know there, but not a ton. Then if i feel comfortable ill do the big move to sum wierd country where i dont know anyone and i gotta start from scratch.

so yeh, thanx for the advice, and keep it coming in... this is a pretty big decision for me and im tryin to get as many ppls thoughts and opinions as i can

Does anyone use "Cold Call %" in their PAHUD? If so, what parameters do you use for your colors? And can anyone tell me what the number actually means?
