[ QUOTE ]
i did my own laundry at home growing up, so gfy. it is ridic nice to drop off laundry and get it two days later, pressed, folded, and hung. i will never do my own laundry again. apparently, you can pay people to do this service for you. [/ QUOTE ] when you get married, will you pay someone to do your wife's laundry? when you have kids, will you pay someone to do their laundry? will you make them do it themselves? what percentage of your freshman class do you think would be completely lost in a laundromat? (again, include the homeless dude with the 40 or not as you desire.) [ QUOTE ] i am having a bit of an existential crisis after getting back from vegas. things that mattered to me before no longer matter and i'm really wondering what the point of some of this [censored] is. thank god online poker is going through a rough spot, so any thoughts of going pro are quickly killed. i just seem to not care about a lot of things, including several of the people whom i thought were my close friends. [/ QUOTE ] dropping out of school is not allowed and you obviously know this. give yourself some time to get back into the swing of your regular life. coming back to the grind after a vacation always sucks; this is doubly so when your vacation was in vegas (oooh, vegas, shiny!!) and you came back winner. i do not now and probably never will understand your social scene, but do you think the alienation you feel from your friends has anything to do with the "secret life" you lead and the fact that you can't tell them about it? consider coming out; it might make you feel better. |

miles,
i love my school and think that it's one of the best undergraduate experiences someone can have in this country. that said, i do feel a certain disconnect with a large portion of my friends and that is what is causing a lot of my "not wanting to do school". and of course, doing homework and getting up for class is hella lame, but that's everywhere. tyler, don't be silly. women were made for doing laundry. seriously though, i would be willing to bet a significant amount of money that 95% of all of the kids here could walk into a laundrymat with a pile of dirty clothes and come out 1.5 hours later with clean clothes. i srsly hope that you're not about to make an ivory tower argument b/c i will def ignore you for a week. dropping out of school is definitely not allowed. i have already spent $80k of my parent's money. the least i can do is spend the rest! i do plan on allowing regular life to come back. but it's kinda hard, and especially with fraternity stuff. i can't really explain it, and as you know, you prolly never will understand my social scene. i don't even understand it. but for sure, my "secret life" does cause alienation. i deal with problems (intellectual and emotional) that these kids can never understand. i've had experiences that are completely different from the rest of them. but i also know that i can't tell them what the deal is. questions i got last night at dinner: "so, were you like up or down?" "if i give you $500 can you make me money?" "isn't poker just luck anyway?" "what was the best hand that you made?" "what stakes did you play?" (looooooolllllllll) "blah blah blackjack" etc. just questions/comments that revealed a general ignorance/stupidity about gambling and this part of my life. |

Ok, I know you guys don't give a [censored] about sports outside of the U.S. But imagine that your favourite NFL team just played the divisional game. With 40 seconds left on the clock in the first overtime the score is 51-51 (yes both defenses played that poorly) and the opposing team has a 35 field goal to end the game. Their kicker hits the right post!!! On the first play your QB throws a deep ball and your WR is stopped at the opposing teams 27 yard line. After 3 unfruitful plays your kicker makes the FG and the game is over. That's the way I feel right now [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

laundry money expiring at the semester break can eat a dick [/ QUOTE ] I just realized who wrote this... umm, tyler? You ARE saying this is a bad thing, right? I get to the airport a little early (as I usually do) and yank out my Lost: Season 2 DVD's I got from blockbuster to do some serious timekillign waiting and watching them on my laptop. wtf? battery dead? It's only been plugged in for like a month straight, so sure, the battery should be dead. I pull out my AC adapter.... zomg it doesn't fit!! I brought the docking station AC adapter which != laptop adapter. And this is kind of an extended trip. Like 12 days. s;ldkgjldkgjsdlkgjdklgj Knowing my Poker Pro mag wasn't going to last me through the concourse wait AND the flight, I sat and did nothing. But noticed a lot of young, fairly attractive people were waiting for this flight. And they spoke a bunch of different languages. I heard what sounded like french. Others I couldn't identify. One girl had a book in cyrillic. So I figure: 1. We're going to crash somewhere and there will be a lot of survivors, since they're all good looking. I hope I get to be the token-non-good-looking person. 2. Well, I had no 2. I had no idea what was going on. Turns out they're all with Cirque du Soleil. Too cool. Get to Dallas, call my wife and ask her to ship me out my adapter.. but she can't find it. So I stopped at a Frye's on the way to my hotel. Hotel assigns me a room that already has people in it. A lady, the maid says. Said maid unfortunately stopped me before my key opened the door. Perhaps it wouldn't have opened the door, but I was kind of disappointed I didn't get to meet the lady. You know... just to say hi. Maybe she was naked. I'm hungry. Later. PS... we didn't crash, obv. |

So I'm on my way to work this afternoon and pull up right beside this beauty....
The picture doesn't do it justice. This is the first time I've seen this color and it is friggin awesome. God I'm in love. Anyway, we both get on the interstate and it's about 5 miles to my exit. Dude and his lady in the vette are in the fast lane doing about 65. I'm in the slow lane about 3 car lengths back, same pace, just admiring away. Line of about 7 or 8 cars in front of me, no cars in front of him. About a mile up ahead the road makes a sweeping curve to the left. Traffic ALWAYS slows to about 55 around this curve and the curve is well within 65able. friggin idiots. Well I start my move to the fast lane behind this most beautiful of specimens just as the slow lane starts slowing and....wtf??!!!...this [censored] idiot slows down to match the pace of the slow lane....with no passing space between him and the slow line [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img] .... all the way around the curve....as#$%*k*(&^..... [censored] idiots like you don't deserve a [censored] car like that.... |

i srsly hope that you're not about to make an ivory tower argument b/c i will def ignore you for a week. [/ QUOTE ] a week? say it ain't so, baby! no ivory tower argument; it's just that rich people have different lives (especially as children) from the non-rich. regardless, 95% is way too high. [ QUOTE ] but for sure, my "secret life" does cause alienation. i deal with problems (intellectual and emotional) that these kids can never understand. i've had experiences that are completely different from the rest of them. but i also know that i can't tell them what the deal is. questions i got last night at dinner: "so, were you like up or down?" (looooooolllllllll) "blah blah blackjack" etc. just questions/comments that revealed a general ignorance/stupidity about gambling and this part of my life. [/ QUOTE ] honest question: do you know how arrogant and self-involved you sound when you say things like this? there are worse things in life than having people around who (at best) show an active interest in your vacation or who (at worst) make polite small talk about your vacation. yes, it's annoying to be asked the same 5 uninformed, ridiculous questions about your hobby over and over and over again. how many times do you think i've had this conversation: "oh, you went to Cal? what was your major?" "cognitive science." "cog--cog-ni-tive. science? what's that." ? also, you do not have a monopoly on intellectual and emotional problems. have your classmates (or i) experienced 5-digit swings? no, but i bet some of them have gone through financial ruin in their families. i know that i have been through 200 BB downswings and that they suck. 200 BB for me is not 5-digits, but do you think the emotional trauma is really that different? anyway, i know you're just kvetching and i hope it is cathartic. college definitely sucks sometimes (if it didn't suck sometimes, it couldn't be awesome the other times). i will always lend you a sympathetic ear, and smack you upside the head when you deserve it.
