Default Re: Announcing New Software : PokerTableScan

<<Concerning the addtionnal features, i want to be clear: PTS is not and will never be a software that can monitor and scan all the tables of the lobby while you are playing. There is a simple reason for that : for example, in PartyPoker, for the player list to be displayed AND updated in the lobby, the table has to be selected in the table window, and the poker lobby window has to be active. So you cannot play and scan at the same time, because the poker lobby window would come in the foreground every 2 seconds...>>

Were the data gathering from the Party lobby performed in a different user desktop than the one where the data is displayed this would not be a problem.

[/ QUOTE ]

True.
In fact i tried yesterday to launch the PTS automatic scan while i was playing 2 tables, and if you minimize both PTS and the Party Lobby, it's ok, because the party lobby window doesn't come up every 2 seconds. PTS needs to activate it, so it is activated, but it stays minimized, so it doesn't bother you while you are playing...
mmm, maybe i could work something out to be able to launch a kind of "background - low priority - automatic scan" that could try to keep the stats of the tables updated...

[/ QUOTE ]

Alternatively collect all the info from the Party lobby screen first and only then go about the slow(er) business of database querying filling in the results as they are available.

When I highlight the database I want to use, the bottom window doesn't display any properties. When I click below to fill those properties in, the database I chose is no longer highlighted. Is this how it's supposed to work?

Default REVIEW

Downloaded & registered the product, just finished my first use.

Cons:
setup time is long if you don't have your databases converted to SQL yet. (several hours)

connecting your database(s) to the program wasn't quite clear at first. (this is mostly user-induced delay, because im not the most computer savvy)

takes a while to scan and can lead to player turnover by the time you're done

Pros:
obviously, no hassle with the party lobby any more (or at least it is reduced)

no constant joining of tables and exiting of tables to look for good games

complete breakdown of the tables, everything you'd want to know.

Anyways, pretty obvious pro/cons but I really liked the software and thought I'd at least share my experience with it.

To activate your database you have to :
- Click on the database name to highlight it
- fill the login, password boxes, and check the Active checkbox
- Click on Apply to save
- Click on the database name again to re-highlight it
- Click on the "Test Connect" button
If the connection succeed, your base is correctly activated

Thanks for the review and for the feedback.

I realize that the database configuration is complicated for some of you, so i'm working to make it simplier. In the next release, you will finally have the same database names you use in PokerTracker displayed in PTS, so it should be easier. I will also try to add Access Database support, but it may not be in the next release, since right now i have no developping experience with access database. If someone can help me with Access database queries, feel free to PM me or contact me at [email protected] .

Concerning the time necessary to scan, i'm also working to improve that. Here is what will be added in the next release:
- faster database access
- player stats cache : PTS will store in a cache the stats of players already retrieved from the database, so that the same queries are not done again and again. I think this will save a lot of time and a lot of database queries. Users will have parameters to manage this cache.
- separate process for the player list retrieval and database queries. This will also save time.

With the faster scan process, it will be easier for PTS to keep the table stats up-to date.

Regards
Fabien (PTS support)

Hi,
I released a new version 1.04 of PTS.
New in this version:
- Added Access database support
- Much faster database queries and access
- Fix database names to use the database names used in PokerTracker
- Added Players Stats cache. Stats are stored in a cache to avoid calculating the stats of the same players again an again. This should make PTS faster for users with large database.
- Added 5 Fish profiles
- Added 3 Shark profiles
- Added colors support and customizable color settings
- Added Pause and Resume Automatic scan process
- Added BB/100 stats, Net BB won stats, % Won at showdown stats, % Went ot showdown stats
- Added "My Name" parameters, to exclude your own stats of the table stats.
- Added sort table by clicking on columns

Please check my website www.pokertablescan.com for more info.

Feature request:

some way to flag buddies that the software finds while scanning. ie I have player XXXX on my buddylist but they are hidden from search, so its pointless. when PTS sees XXXX, have it flag that player for me.

so somewhere to add a list of screen names to watch for would be great.
