I think Bodog handled it correctly. As other stated, this policy is necessary to avoid being scammed. And there's no way they can return the money to the people who lost it. During the course of hands played, that player would have won and lost much more than 500 to many players. It would be impossible to unravel all those transactions.

Hey Stellar,
It's vague I agree. Just saying that the way it is worded in your quote above can be interpreted differently. In the context of "a debt" I certainly agree that it's widely understood. But the actual wording is in the context of "a deposit"...which leaves it a bit more open to interpretation. Chief |

I think BODOG should refund winnings in cases like this ONLY WHEN:
The depositor made an honest mistake. He really would have paid if he lost. And he promises "Really, really, really, I would have paid up if I lost." This would eliminate the scammers. |

Is this really that hard? Fixed in 3 business days.
1. Bodog freezes account. 2. OP fixes account info. 3. Bodog collects said deposit. 4. Bodog releases account and said funds. If money can't be collected funds are confiscated. Keeps cheats out and allows for honest mistakes. EDIT: forgot about the problem when OP loses all the money. |

Phil,
Thank you. All I was trying to do was enjoy a few evenings playing internet poker for the first time. I have played Holdem for over 20 years but always at casinos. I was lucky in that I caught a very good run of cards out of the gate and pyschologically that puts you in a great frame of mind to continue playing. The frozen account was a real shock to me as I had no clue why my deposit didn't go through. After I filled out their Bank Verification Form, I was positive they would re-instate my account with all funds in tact. Boy was I wrong. I would have never believed a site like theirs would keep the 500 since they stood to make so much more from my participation in their games. I feel they should not give anyone money to play with until their funds clear the bank. That way no one gets hurt and they do not lose honest players. What they did was wrong. I recently deposted money at Poker Stars and was given credit to play but I am waiting until I see my withdrawl with my own eyes before I play one hand! Good luck to you. |

[/ QUOTE ] It's probably best to drop it now. We all understand the frustration, because you seem to have intended to do the right thing. But BoDog can't have a policy that effectively lets people take a shot for free - on the house bankroll. Not that you intended to do it, but that was the effect of your mistake. Also, on folks suggestions that they distribute the cash to other players - not a bad idea, but also recognize that the gambling sites need to hire folks and pay for corporate infrastructure to prevent fraud and abuse; recovered cash helps defray those costs. Think about it. You seem to be sincere, and I feel that if you place yourself in the shoes of the business owner, you'll see that the really can't be expected return the cash. Think of all the similar situations where they credit the $100 up front, and the cash is lost - that's out of their pocket. One other thing - the gambling site can't always immediately clear the funds, due to lag in transfer from some financial institutions to another. The site is operating on good faith as a convenience to their customers. They want to provide the service, but they are taking a definite risk. They rely on the honesty of their customers, but there's no doubt that they are often burned, and it's a cost to the company. |

Hi PuertoKid,
You sound like a guy with a good heart and a logical mind. I thank you for your kindness. If Bodog would rather confiscate my winnings rather than return them after I gave them a copy of my drivers license and a bank statement and the correct checking account number with the last digit appearing rather than the first go around when I left the last digit off. Oh one thing, this is what Bodog told me I did, I have no proof that I even made this error. None the less, I will take their word and believe I made this error. Anyway, if they would rather confiscate my winnings rather than re-instate them and have me remain a loyal customer, then their business sense stinks. Think how much money in rakes they would have made off of me if I would have continued to play poker. And they never knew I also like to wager on sporting events which could have netted them a tidy sum had I fell into a losing streak. Think about this, if I am an honest person as I claim to be, and I got off to a very good start in their holdem games and my intentions were strictly honorable, wouldn't you think I would be upset to learn my winnings were confiscated? And for those who think Bohog would have been out the 100 bucks, they are very wrong. All Bohog had to do was take my Bank Verification Form and make the withdrawl and they would have had their initial 100. But they chose to keep my winnings knowing I would jump ship. Short-sighted in my humble opinion. I got hosed and I hope they change their policy so that no one else has to go through this again. |
