[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I have a bet me and my cousin might do. We play 2 rounds of golf back to back. He has to walk and carry a full set of clubs and I'm in a cart only allowed to play with 3 clubs(of my choosing before we start). I also pick the golf course. I usually play lower 90s and he's more like upper 90s. He's offering 2 to 1 on the bet. Pretty sure it's a bad bet to take for me but this sounds pretty fun and I feel like gambling. Couple of questions about the bet... What 3 clubs should I use? First thing that came to mind for me was: 7iron, PW and putter. What golf course? Should I go for a very hard couse to walk with a bunch of hills or should I try to find a shorter course that doesn't play the driver a lot? [/ QUOTE ] how you score who wins this could make a significant difference I think [/ QUOTE ] What ? [/ QUOTE ] basically, is the winner determined by lowest number of strokes on all 36 holes? who wins the most holes? etc. your goal would probably be to use a scheme that would make it easy for you to tie him after 36 holes and force multiple playoffs. [/ QUOTE ] Oh yah It would be on 36 holes |

random thought: o/u on time it takes someone to learn Wingdings sufficiently well to read a document aloud or translate a document in a fixed time or something

A couple of good friends of mine just bet 3 to 1 on 1k (3k to 1k, I'm so familiar with betting and still suck with the lingo) that one of them couldn't get below 200 pounds in 7 weeks. He weighed in at 226 pounds recently.
Anyways, it's mostly unneccessary random weight put on post-basketball in prep school, but the funniest thing is that they live together: and the one making the bet went out and brought 200 dollars worth of ho-hos, twinkies, M&M ice cream sandwiches, pop, and other assorted high calorie items. This is going to be awesome because I'm going to visit in two weeks and will get to partake in the tantalizing. |

[ QUOTE ] What 3 clubs should I use? [/ QUOTE ] I'd go 5 iron, 9 iron, putter. [/ QUOTE ] no! this is relative, but 3 iron, seven iron, and wedge *assuming* you are a good long iron player and/or if the course has trees, the three iron is invaluable as it's an ideal club for getting out of the woods, can double as a putter, and a good player can often hit his three iron within fifteen yards of his three wood. the seven iron can realistically be used as a 130-170 yard club, so it's very versatile, and can also be used around the green where you'd normally use your 8 iron for low punch and run chips shots. but above all, dont underestimate where you save shots on the course- around the green. a wedge is a must. for a player with no short game it wont make as much difference, i.e., you suck equally with three iron/wedge as you do with wedge/putter, so you're better off playing to the (hopeful) strengths of your long game, so take your driver in the one of the combos. for me it would be five wood, seven iron, wedge, b/c i can putt with my wedge, hit my seven either 130 or 175, and my five wood is generally spot on 240 yards or so off the tee, much more accurate than my driver, and i can use it for a variety of low-punch type shots. also, guids, lets gamble. |

Ship,
That is a pretty easy bet for the 226 pound guy. He can probably lose 15-20 pounds easily with just a 7-week crash diet and a little exercise. The rest he can just cut before weigh-in. Gotta carry a lot of water weight at 226. |
