The obvious easy answer is a martini, regular dry martini.

Who the hell are calling gin and tonics and vodka tonics girly?

Who the hell cares what's a girly drink? As long as you don't order peach schnopps, whatever.

I order gin and tonics all the time. Bombay or Tanq. I love Hendricks though. Good stuff.

I do like scotch, and I'm just a beginner in the field. I've tried JW Blue, which was nice and smooth, but way overpriced. I like Macallan and Glenlivit. Some of the others I've tried were too peaty, like Lagavulin and Laphroaig. Hopefully I'll gain the tastebuds to like them. I'm still ordering them with 1 or 2 ice cubes.

Vodka on the rocks sounds hardcore.

Any drink whose name is it's ingredients is an acceptable drink. This is a universal and unquestionable rule.

Rum and coke=YES
Fuzzy Navel=GAY

If you ever have to explain to the bartender how to make your drink, you've done something terribly, terribly wrong.

Meh, "Zima w/ a jolly rancher pls", sounds pretty gay.

[/ QUOTE ]

He never said it was the only universal and unquestionable rule. A Southern comfort coke is still gay as [censored].

Vodka straight up with no ice is good. Whiskey straight up with no ice is good. If your not sure if something is girly or gay, don't drink it and your good. Beer is never that bad, red wine isn't bad either but only if you already know she likes it.

maybe even white wine

no rose.

Gin and Tonic is a good choice... if you are a retired grand-mother living in Florida.

Scotch... single malts neat; Laphroaig, Old Pulteney, Speyside, something interesting, pretend you know your [censored] even if you don't, don't order Macallan or JW. Or if you are a noob go for blends on the rocks.

Rioja is a wine, with Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja (Protected designation of origin), from a region named after the Rio Oja in Spain, a tributary of the Ebro. Rioja is made from grapes grown in the autonomous communities of La Rioja and Navarre and the Basque province of Álava. La Rioja is further subdivided into three zones (in rising order of warmth) Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja. Rioja Alta is the highest of these zones and is said to produce the best wine. Many wines have traditionally blended fruit from all three regions though there is a slow growth in single zone wines.

probably "less" is a good place to start.

i read through this thread, and, really, just drink what you want to. just be man enough to be confident in what you like to drink.

if you're in, say a club in east palo alto or oakland and really want to bow to image, order a beautiful. if you're a real man, order a double beautiful. if you're a real manly man, mix up your own in a flask and drink it in the parking lot outside the club.

As a bartender, I personally consider jack/rum/whatever and coke to be girly. Or at least college freshman type amateur-drinker drinks.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thank you. Jack and Coke/Rum and Coke is for rednecks or amateur drinkers.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is the second time someone has used "amateur drinker" to insult people who drink Gin and Tonic type drinks. Have you people considered that we are trying to keep our status for the drinking Olympics?

I think the bartender guy likes people who order straight liquor because that's less work for him.
