[ QUOTE ]
When I was around 14, listening to my mother bitch about her life, kids etc.

me: Yeah. But, if you could do it all over again, you wouldn't change a thing.
her: Yes, I would.
me: what?
her: I wouldn't have kids.

Ten years later, just before my father died. Arguing about something I can't recall.

Me: wtf?
him: God, you're just like your mother.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would be irreversibly damaged if my parents (divorced since I was like three) said either of those to me in any serious way. I just can't imagine it. But then, I have awesome parents and a good relationship with them.. Still, ouch, man. That hurts.

After losing a game of Bocce at a family reunion to my cousins:

Grandfather (to me): You're a disgrace to this entire family.

Did you wake up spooning a horse head the following morning?

3 minutes ago:

Girl is watching me read a thread in OOT and sees the phrase "check your sarcasm detector"...

she asks : ("They don't really have sarcasm detectors, do they?")

Sigh.

A couple months ago...

Mom: 35 years ago when I moved to San Diego I had a daughter and gave her up for adoption. A few months ago she got in contact with me and we have seen each other a few times. She is married and has two kids and has been living in University City (about 15 minutes away from my house) her whole life and she is on her way over with her husband to meet you right now.

My mother used the term "diss" correctly and without any hit of humor or irony in a conversation with me on Sunday. TWICE.

When I was 12 I made an off-handed remark to my dad that I don't think old people have sex. He told my grandfather and the following conversation took place the next time we spoke:

Me: Hi grandpa, what's up?
Him: Not much. A bit tired. I just got done [censored] your grandmother.

Put that one in the column of 'things people say that scar you for life'.
