Please make an "Ask me about getting hustled for 10 years" thread.

[/ QUOTE ]

we dont wager anymore, my problem is that Im never going to be in a position to hustle anyone playing golf, too many people know who I am and that might jeopardize my job.

i put the same way i swing, my put is just a mini swing. im self taught w/ no golfers in my family. some old dude told me my swing looked like bobby jones, loose and laggy, i just step up and hit. i checked it out and it does (sorta). my whole game is circa 1930.

This basically tells me that you are a very confident player, since the mechanics you're describing went by the wayside a long time ago, I believe due to the number of ways it could break down - often it was mental weakness that led to problems with the stroke, which often feeds upon itself. Then again, if you think you're going to make everything in sight then you could probably putt with the blade of pitching wedge and it wouldn't matter.

Anyway, good thread. Thanks.

I dunno. I would say both Stan Utley and the DeLa Torre school are about swinging the putter more like you would a full swing as opposed to Pelz. I fooled around w/ Pelz philosophy stuff but I think I am fgoing to abandon it. I think this winter will be spent hitting a lot of putts on a mat with Utley's book near.

60 degrees of loft on the face of the wedge. it's also called a lob wedge. I can't hit mine more than 40 yards or so, because i find that the harder i swing the less distance i get, it just goes higher in the air.

for reference, a pitching wedge is 54 degrees, sand wedge is usually 56-58. My uncle has a "Tom Watson wedge" that is 64 degrees.

I'm assuming limon's '60 wedge' is a lob wedge. The loft on the club is 60 degrees. a sand wedge is typically 56 degrees and a pitching wedge is ~50-52 degrees.

This isn't really relevant to the thread, but 54 would be a pretty high loft for a pitching wedge, most gap wedges are 52-53. Lofts vary slightly, but a pitching wedge is usually about 48 (or lower on most blades).

Limon, great thread. There are a few things I want to ask either later or tomorrow. One of the best "Ask me" threads I can remember.

as far as being good at golf. i have a huslers game, i.e i chip and put extremely well. what this does is make me look lucky. i can bomb a 300 drive but i wouldnt. that is equated w/ GOOD. getting up and down at precise moments or never 3 putting will fly under the radar.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow, this makes so much sense it's scary.

[/ QUOTE ]

Indeed. Combined with your non-mechanical loopy swing is an ideal combination.

I agree with almost everything Limon is saying. I played golf in High School (I was a scratch for three years) at a nationally competitive level in Canada.

You play a very similar game to my dad who is also a scratch golfer. He hits the ball 250 at most, but never misses a fairway and can get it up and down from anywhere. People are always surprised when his final score is tallied. It's funny how people associate distance and ball flight with good players when the game is basically all chipping and putting (at least at the level you are playing, clearly +3 and above its different).
