While it is true that Ender's Game is required reading, almost NONE of the officers actually read it! My wife and I both attended the basic school (and we'd both read it before we showed up!) and neither of us discussed the book at all. A pity, really!

Always figured you were borderline pre-historic.

A TI 99. Classic. Most-favored drinking partner will get a kick out of that. He's into obsolete technology, and while he's not a gambler, he is familiar with Monte Carlo simulations.

How old are you? Birthday?

- 22 yo, October

Where do you live?

- Currently, Baton Rouge LA. Lived in New Orleans until Katty, and can't wait to get back. Originally from Cajun town of Cut Off.

Are you married? Girlfriend/Boyfriend? Children?

- Unmarried, stupidly pining over a woman who lives across the country while still maintaining bachelor lifestyle. One boy, who is no longer with us.

Occupation besides poker?

- College student, working on BS in nursing. Planning on med school if I don't get burnt out by then. I also work armed security part time (READ: 12$/hr to study & read novels). I am also a writer for profit, specializing in essays and other graded assignments for college students.

Favorite movie? Music?

- Trying to expand my horizons with both

Best poker acomplishment? How long been playing?

- Maintaining solvency playing online cards. I also won a couple of MTT's.

I enjoy immature humor and creating awkward situations.

I'm really good at Tetris.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was very good back in the day. I knew a guy at Boston U who turned a machine over on one quarter. I was the best I've ever seen at Klax. I spend way too much time staring at computer screens to be interested in playing video games much anymore, although I will usually play Tetris between bands when I go to shows at First Avenue. Flogging Molly Saturday and Sunday. Woohoo!

Along those lines, before we really knew each other, most-favored drinking partner and I spent an entire car trip back from Red Wing, about an hour, discussing Tetris-style video games and Rubik's-style puzzles. I'm more than a bit of a geek, but ol' Johnny Three-Note takes the cake. I was consistently under a minute on the cube in junior high school, but I'm old and slow and I think there are a few things I've forgotten in the last 25 years. I need to find my 5x5x5.

I have been volunteering at a week long overnight camp during the summer called Camp Courage for the past four years.

This is probably the best thing in this thread.

I can actually change anyone's title to about anything, but the request has to come from the poster himself. I'm only inclined to do it for people whose handles I recognize, e.g., regular stud posters, and only if I find the suggestions appropriate and/or funny. You may send your requests via private message.

I think my life is good in spite of my getting my engineering degree, not because of it. I accumulated a lot of debt, and I don't think I have much to show for it. I think my going back to school was partly responsible for the failure of my marriage, because that's really when we started growing apart. The irony is that I went back to school with the idea of building a better life for us. I probably wouldn't have done it for myself.

And yet I still think about going back to school again.
