[ QUOTE ] What we need is a poker celebrity to run for President or Vice-President as a Libertarian in 2008 on a platform of repealing this stupid law. Chuck Moulton Vice-Chair, Libertarian National Committee [/ QUOTE ] I'll betcha Phill Hellmuth would do it. [/ QUOTE ] If the choice is between no online poker and Phil Hellmuth for president, then good job, Satan. |

FYI, S_Cory is Shane Cory, Executive Director of the National LP. If you want the straight story about what Libertarians would do with regard to online poker, he is the horse's mouth.
The short version is: If you want to play online poker, it's your business, not Bill Frist's or Hillary Clinton's or anyone in the government. Be a fish, be a rounder, be a pro, it's all your business, just don't expect the government to bail you out when you go busto. Also, this story is probably how Shane found this thread in the first place. As opposed to Shane, I am a poker player and this ridiculous law does affect me. |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] My brother told me that the Libertarian party believes the next best thing to them being in power is to have split power in the government. In other words, we need the Republicans to control the House, and the Democrats control the Senate (or vise versa). I cannot confirm that the Libertarian party actually said this, but it makes sence. With split control, we'll have more gridlock. With more gridlock, hopefully stupid bills like this would have never been passed. [/ QUOTE ] So you want to fund a government that accomplishes nothing? [/ QUOTE ] "...government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem." --Ronald Reagon in his first Inaugural Address. (January 20, 1981) It's too bad the Republican Party does not currently hold to this statement. |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The Libertarian philosophy is simple: live and let live. Each person should have the right to do as he pleases so long as he harms no one and doesn't limit others' freedom to do as they please; however, each person must also be responsible for the consequences of his own actions. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, the very problem with the Libertarian Party is that they do NOT believe in live and let live. With the LP, it's "our way or the highway." No party that has a platform that spans multiple levels of government can claim "live and let live". If, for example, some local community wants to ban porn, and 95%+ of the residents support this, it's their business. When Libertarians say "no, you can't do that," they're very clearly not letting them live how they wish. Part of "live and let live" is that you can't force liberty on those who don't want it. [/ QUOTE ] Where did you get this information? [/ QUOTE ] From just about every Libertarian I've talked to in my 14 years of being a libertarian and just about everything I've read from the Libertarian Party, including their platform? [/ QUOTE ] Well since there is such a strong push for porn shops to open up in Amish country (where they all don't want it per your example) and if it were not for the government preventing it the Amish country would be over run with porn shops I guess you have a good point? |

[/ QUOTE ] So you are comfortable choosing between paying a lot to accomplish nothing and paying a lot to have extreme harm inflicted? |

Chuck Moulton Vice-Chair, Libertarian National Committee [/ QUOTE ] They will likely all have the same problem Howard Stern did. web page [/ QUOTE ] This may be so but I just want to point out that this may be a time for all of us to try to come together insofar as we have common interests. It only helps us to have libertarian party activists participating in the 2p2 forum. They are 100% for what I think all of us want with respect to poker. Lets all try to be mindful of that. |

[ QUOTE ] but had to also shake my head at how they twisted into just another plea for contributions from the faithful, rather than attempting to stir up, shall we say, non-financial activism. "The party of principle" is just as opportunist as the other parties. [/ QUOTE ] And just how exactly do you expect Libertarian candidates to get elected without any funding? It's not the LPs fault that getting elected anywhere requires a ton of money. [/ QUOTE ] If you offer to volunteer your time/services they may just be able to accomodate you. |
