I'd hire a team of top ear specialists.

I've seen a lot of "what would you do with $1-$20 million" type threads, but I have yet to see one about what people would do with massive wealth.

Describe the next steps in your life if all of a sudden I pressed a button and wired $10 billion of tax free cash into your checking account.

I know for sure I'd buy a top flight European soccer team, probably a MLB baseball team too.

I'd take my mother out to dinner.

If she wanted French food, we'd go to Paris. If she was in the mood for Chinese...

So I'd get an MLB team ...Then I'd buy so many players, people would start calling Steinbrenner...cheap.

[/ QUOTE ]

Steinbrenner spends $200M+ per year on players. You'd spend $300M? After three years, one of your ten B will be gone. You'll see that you're on the path to ruin, and you'll bail. You'll have the greatest fire sale in sports history.

IOW, you'll be Wayne Huizenger.

[/ QUOTE ]
This may come as a shock, but Steinbrenner makes money.

ESPN Article

"However, Forbes said the Yankees lost $50 million last season because the team paid $77 million in revenue sharing. The New York Daily News also reported in December that the Yankees lost at least $50 million and possibly as much as $85 million last season."

First, a few nice houses, a synthetic tryptamine laboratory, and Alex Shulgin.

After the party lifestyle eventually becomes boring, I'll spend my money on philanthropy (mainly helping the poor in America get out and stay out of debt, or maybe abroad), and spend a lot of my time studying science and economics and furthering my education in the fields and hopefully make some cool contributions.

I can't imagine why anyone is saying invest it. You have ten billion dollars, what kind of profit are you looking to make?

You are throwing money away if you don't invest it. You think Forbes, Gates, etc, just have a big $50B checking account?

$10B invested super-conservatively will bring you over 500 million dollars a year.

But you already have $10B!

I mean, I guess it's a matter of personal preference, but I can't imagine why I'd be concerned with making a profit when I have $10B. Investing it in business for the good of the economy and such I can understand, but I don't think I'd have much incentive to make any more personal profit at that point.

With $10B my only concern would be am I really able to throw the majority of it away before I die.
