Awesome is different from cool. Flounder in Animal House was awesome. Otto's hand is awesome. King Kong's testicles are awesome.

A few:

Blondie (Clint Eastwood) in Il bueno, It Brutto, Il Cattivo.

John Doe (Kevin Spacey) in Seven

Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) in Pulp Fiction

Fred Fenster (Benicio del Toro) in Usual Suspects

Colonel Walter Krtz (Marlon Brando) in Apocalypse Now

Stansfield (Gary Oldman) in Leon (The Professional)

Mathilda (Natalie Portman) in Leon (The Professional)

Derek Vineyard (Ed Norton) in American History X

Christopher Walken in anything.

Mr. Pink (Steve Buschemi) in Reservoir Dogs

Gunnary Seargent Hartman (Lee Earny) in Full Metal Jacket

Marv (Mickey Rourke) in Sin City

Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman), the Graduate.

There are more. My criteria was cool to watch, not diebitter/fonzie cool.
