ladies and gentleman: jamie gold, the new bad boy of poker!

He will be marketed completely different than th previous winners, and he will fit in with bodog's edgy campaign that they want to have.

Unfortunately the WSOP champion isn't selected for publicity reasons like Miss America and American Idol. It is really not his job to around representing poker like Miss America. Moneymaker, Raymer, and Hachem have done a good job of representing poker, but it is not there responsibility to do so.

Whoever plays the best and gets the luckiest wins, even slightly obnoxious rich Jewish Hollywood agents.

There are plenty of people with bad reputations and/or criminal records who could have won, including won of the earliest champions, Amarillo Slim, wo incidently represented poker quite effectively.

Their aren't many demographics that I think have alot of marketing potential left. The reason I focus on people being younger is because I see a younger person more likely to play online poker. 2p2 should be a good example, since our avg age on this forum is probbaly in the mid 20's, if not younger.

I am 47 and not offended by what you said. I do think you are wrong that this is a negative. I assure you that if you are looking for donks who you want at your tables with $500 they don't mind dropping for a night of fun, my age group can handle that better than some college kid or new graduate.

If you look at it from pure marketing, what is the most desirable demographic for TV? It would be people in my age group that have substantial disposable income. I recognize that the younger crowd is the favored demographic for movies, clothes, mall-stuff, but when it comes to disposable income, you can't beat the 45 - 55 age group -- which, by the way, is what I think middle-aged is.

Many in my age group would be turned off by those you think are desireable. Someone my age wants to know that I don't have to be 23 years old in order to survive the rigors of a 10 day tournament; or need to have a bunch of years to learn the game. Moreover, someone like Pralad would have been terrible if he had started to rap ... you think Gold's talking was bad ... let some of us who more than just hate rap hear that at a table and run in the opposite direction.

LOL at OP for suggesting that someone like Sabyl Cohen would have been better for the growth of the poker industry than Jamie Gold.

I think that there couldnt have been a BETTER possible winner than Gold. He is well-spoken and by his own admission he is still learning how to play better. He didn't need suck outs to win. Chip leader from 135 left to the end, he completely dominated the last 4 days of play. He is not a full-time poker addict who spends 12 hours a day multi-tabling. He is not some well-known name that needed years of practice to hone his game. He will be the perefct foil for all these young punks who think they would have been a more deserving winner because of all their testosterone-fuelled "mad skillz". For the rest of the populace, he just continues in the mold of Moneymaker, Raymer and Hachem; a guy who entered a tournament, played his game and came out with $12,000,000.

I think that would have been cool, because I know Sabyl.

i love Jamie Gold as the new WSOP World Champion if only because his win serves as a big "F U" to all the people who think that poker should be the exclusive domain of "internet whiz-kids" and "name poker pros" and that anyone who doesn't fall into either category MUST be a know-nothing "donk".

signed,
a 31yo guy who is apparently rapidly approaching middle-age

EDIT: i should have added a third category exempt from ridicule: "2p2ers, especially 'known' 2p2ers".

if Raymer wasn't already a respected 2p2'er before his win, you don't think this forum would have found reasons to crucify him? i'm sure his looks/weight, reptile glasses, and the fact that he sucked out several times on his way to the championship would have been more than enough fodder for the haters here.
