[ QUOTE ]
AJP went in a little hard. But I agree: you block the plate, you take what comes. I've never understood how it's legal to block the plate anyway. If a first baseman did hat to a runner coming in, it would be interference, wouldn't it? [/ QUOTE ] Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the rules allow a fielder to block a base as long as the fielder has the ball. It is interference when the fielder does not have the ball. |

Im not trying to say that AJ was instigating, but other then a bat near home when there might be a play at the plate or a corked bat ala Sammy, what major leaguer retrieves their own equipment? [/ QUOTE ] Baseball-reference.com lists all the players who routinely retrieve their own equipment. AJ Pierzynski is perennially top 10 in pieces of equipment retrieved per game, at 1.68 (his career average). |

[ QUOTE ]
Apparently Carlos Zambrano thought AJ Pierzynski was being too demonstrative rounding the bases today on his home run. AJ clapped his hands rounding second base and Zambrano took exception. This is the same Zambrano that routinely stares at batters all the way around the diamond on thier home run trots. The same Zambrano that points to the sky and fist pumps when he strikes out batters. Carlos Zambrano thinks hitters should show a little more class when they pwn him. Carlos freaking Zambrano!!! LOL!!! Really classy display by Zambrano and Barrett this weekend. Cubs fans should be proud. [/ QUOTE ] I like how you got this completely wrong. |

I really wanted AJ to say "I'm glad he doesn't have a ring, because that punch could have really hurt if he did."
Man that would have ruled SO HARD. |

Zambrano said after the game he didn't see this, but also thought AJP said something to him on his way home, and after yesterday's game, anybody saying anything was going to cause trouble. He didn't start yelling at him because AJP "clapped his hands". |

You were coming across as somebody who had actually seen this, and knew for a fact I was wrong. Clearly you're just guessing. You seemed so certain of yourself. |

[ QUOTE ] He probably will get at least 8 or 10 games. Considering the going rate for throwing at a batter intentionally is 4. I think a point-blank forearm to the neck is a lot worse than a 90mph fastball to the shoulder. [/ QUOTE ] This statement shows a total ignorance of baseball. Pitchers always get suspensions 2-5x longer because they appear in less games. For suspension purposes, the following rough estimates apply. 1 position player game = 2-3 RP games = 5 SP games [/ QUOTE ] NoodleMan, believe it or not Joe Morgan made the same argument on ESPN radio yesterday during the Dan Patrick show |

I just have to say that this is one of my favorite plays ever
I was on vacation in Texas around a bunch of bowlers from the Chicago area...the weekend debate over this provided me hours of entertainment. Watching Cubs and Sox fans argue reminds me how pathetic Bears fans are. I thought that though the play by AJP was clean, it was completely unnecessary. Barrett wasn't 'blocking' the plate. He was merely in position to block the plate if the ball came home in time. It was clear that AJP could easily touch a large portion of the plate and was going to beat the throw. He took it as a chance to make a statement. Guess what AJP? Everyone knows your a dick. Barrett's response was out-of-line, but wholly expected given his temperment and AJP's past. The most disappointing thing was that Barrett couldn't break a jaw or something with that hit. fun times all around |
