Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the rules allow a fielder to block a base as long as the fielder has the ball. It is interference when the fielder does not have the ball.

Baseball-reference.com lists all the players who routinely retrieve their own equipment. AJ Pierzynski is perennially top 10 in pieces of equipment retrieved per game, at 1.68 (his career average).

Zambrano points to the sky after every inning, good or bad, because he is religious. Apparently AJP did this while rounding the bases. Zambrano said after the game he didn't see this, but also thought AJP said something to him on his way home, and after yesterday's game, anybody saying anything was going to cause trouble. He didn't start yelling at him because AJP "clapped his hands".

AJ didn't point to the sky while rounding the bases. He did it after touching home -- after Zambrano started his act. You were coming across as somebody who had actually seen this, and knew for a fact I was wrong. Clearly you're just guessing. You seemed so certain of yourself.

I just have to say that this is one of my favorite plays ever

I was on vacation in Texas around a bunch of bowlers from the Chicago area...the weekend debate over this provided me hours of entertainment. Watching Cubs and Sox fans argue reminds me how pathetic Bears fans are.

I thought that though the play by AJP was clean, it was completely unnecessary. Barrett wasn't 'blocking' the plate. He was merely in position to block the plate if the ball came home in time. It was clear that AJP could easily touch a large portion of the plate and was going to beat the throw. He took it as a chance to make a statement. Guess what AJP? Everyone knows your a dick. Barrett's response was out-of-line, but wholly expected given his temperment and AJP's past. The most disappointing thing was that Barrett couldn't break a jaw or something with that hit.
