Bob's list of top 5 favorite announcers:

1. Vin Scully
2. Marty Brennaman (Cincy Reds)
3. Jack Buck
4. Ernie Harwell
5. Ken Wilson (doing hockey, not baseball...St. Louis Blues days)

I've met all the people on this list except Jack Buck.

I guess this as good a place as any to make my first post.

I'm shocked no one's put Jon Sterling up here for his sheer hilarity at calling Yankee games (I'm a Yankee fan, btw). His calls are so absurd that Mike and The Mad Dog rip on him pretty much every day and laugh at his calls from the previous day's game.

As a fan of the Evil Empire, I pretty much only watch Yankees games, and occasionally the ESPN Sunday night games. I like the vast majority of you think Joe Morgan is somewhat brain-damaged, but not to the extent of Tim McCarver...I want to vomit every time I hear his voice. Anywho, the point of this is to name my favorite announcer. Though he's not technically an announcer, Jim Kaat as an analyst for Yankees home games is as good as it gets for me. He has a ton of insight into what's going on in the game and makes you feel like you're learning something. Plus he doesn't make idiot comments like Ken Singleton or Bobby Mercer.

I agree, especially the last part. Ken Singleton is unbearable. Hard to imagine the greatest franchise in baseball has some of the worst anouncers.

I miss the days of Phil Rizzutto - "Holy Cow!"

Vin Scully in baseball, no doubt.

Kevin Calabro for basketball. He actually pulled out the 'Boom goes the dynamite' line in a Sonics game a few days after that hit the internet. One of the funniest things I've ever heard.

I was very little, but I still remember watching Phillies games and Harry saying...

"That ball is outta here. Michael. Jack. Schmidt."

Good times.

MicroBob is my favorite announcer of all time.

Currently I like Chip Caray. Good voice and doesn't say anything that makes me cringe.

Scully, Miller, etc of course.

If you had actually heard me calling single-A baseball games I suspect you would probably change your mind about that.

Chip is decent. I used to not like him at all but I think I have gotten used to him and he has improved.

Yeah, I don't know why everyone hates on Chip. The fact that he's basically the least offensive announcer and is also my favorite has to say something about my low standards. That and the fact that everyone else sucks.
