[ QUOTE ]
I know all these guys are trained badasses, but 5 rounds of fighting at that skill level is INSANE IMO. You're gonna be ridiculously tired. [/ QUOTE ] Title matches are always 5x5m rounds in the UFC. Hughes would be ready for 5 rounds because all his title fights right now are 5 rounds. Gracie would be at an even better advantage. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as he learned it is extremely defensive, make your opponent work his ass off to hit you while you lay on your back and conserve energy. When he tires, you choke him out or break his arm off. This is also why the pure jiu-jitsu fighters are a dying breed. They dominated for a while but now that most/all fighters have some submission defense it's a coin toss whether they submit them or not. If they don't, they lose to the decision. |

BTW, a mod should fix the title of this thread. They're actually going to fight at UFC 60.

I think Gracie is going to apply a submission hold. Choke him out. Help him up. Send him home. [/ QUOTE ] hahaha, heard that so many times on the preview. nice. |

I think its going to be a better match then most people think.. Hughes' weakness is submissions, something that Royce is very good at. While he is no slouch in jiu jitsu, he doesnt even come close to a gracie..
Gracie's weakness is his striking, however he has improved alot if you take a look at his last fight (rematch against the judo guy). that being said, Hughes is not a striker.. hes a wrestler, he wont be able to take advantage of Gracie's big weakness. yes gracie is old, but he still should not be underestimated.. it will be close (although i still think hughes will probably win) |

And another thing. I think Royce left the UFC primarily b/c of how the fights were structured. He hated that they had rounds. He wanted the whole fight to go for unlimited time until one fighter wins. Think about it...he's like a rediculous chess player setting up his opponent for the win....and it takes time.

When Royce was in the UFC there were no rounds. It was no time limit at first then they moved to 30 minutes with a decision.
His time in the UFC was during the tournament style shows. He fought in 4 tournaments and won 3, never lost a single fight (he bowed out of one due to injury). Then they put him in the "Superfights" and nobody could beat him there either, then he dissapeared. Not sure the history behind him leaving, it may just be that he was too dominant and fought with a "boring" style from what the crowd wanted to see in those days. |

[ QUOTE ] Gracie will die. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know why people think this. Gracie will lose by a decision but there is no way he gets knocked out or submits. Gracie has fought many guys who are way stronger than Hughes. [/ QUOTE ] 15 years ago. |
