All,

We've already gotten some nominations, but I think it's time to officially open the nominations for the next thread title.

I'm going to re-nominate "I am from assworld foreing country." As has been noted in this NC thread, the number of micro posters from assworld has been on the rise lately, and some (but fortunately not all) of them have gotten a little more assy.

soooo ... how important do you think the 1st married Valentines day is? I'm looking for romantic ideas... what are you hopeless romantics doing?

[/ QUOTE ]

As for a gift, I usually give a sappy romantic song. "My Valentine" by Jim Brickman and Martina Mc Bride is a good start. If you can find it, The Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" usually buckles their knees. Johnny Mathis' "Chances Are" is an old stanby.

Matt,

Just take her someplace cool to eat but get reservations now most places are probably already or close to booked. Don't get any gifts. There are already enough gift giving holidays you will have to shop for without adding extra ones like V-day. If you turn it into a day when you and your wifey go someplace cool and get a killer mealand maybe drink some good wine its a cool day. If you make it where you have to shop and come up with some creative romantic sh%#!t every year it is the worst holiday ever created.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is good advice... I'm gonna start looking around. Anybody know any good, romantic places in Philly?

dude, either stop what you are doing poker related, or move to vegas and go pro.

[/ QUOTE ]

going pro really isn't an option at this point. i know that i don't want to play poker for the rest of my life. problem is that i just don't want to do school at this point in my life.

[ QUOTE ]
I know I'm old, but whatever.

[/ QUOTE ]

joking aside, i really think that this point is important.

[ QUOTE ]
if you continue, you will have some serious problems.

[/ QUOTE ]

i am positive that my "what do i want to do" problems are not unique, nor are they solely related to poker.

[ QUOTE ]
more serious than borrowing 2500 from mom.

[/ QUOTE ]

wtf? that loan was merely one of convienence...i have plenty of money. 2500 is nothing. i'm not trying to brag here, but it sounds like that you're making that into a big deal. that problem would have never existed except for the nt fiasco. i already sent my mom a cashier's check for 2750.

[ QUOTE ]
you are obviously a good poker player. you just need to seperate poker from life.

[/ QUOTE ]

that is very difficult to do sometimes when real life gets lame.

Shadow,

Unless you're the exception, life won't get any better or more enjoyable after you finish school. I am really surprised to see you say you don't "want to do school" right now after seeing you constantly hype up how awesome your school is. Were you just doing this to trick yourself into enjoying life at school?

On the poker vs. life thing. I just turned 24. I make decent money, but I work 40 hours per week. Poker could have been my way out. I am angry that my backup plan has been taken from me.

I'll find a way, though. I don't want to spend this much of my life not doing what I want to do, and "doing what I want to do" is very unlikely to consist of ever working for someone else for money. I don't know anyone who would rather be at their workplace than anywhere else. I don't think you can "do what you love" and earn good money doing it. Again if you're the exception, wow, I'm jealous. Everyone tells me to do what I love, but so far, no one is willing to pay me to travel, work out, or lounge around in my house.

Matt,

I suggest a baller steakhouse. At least in my neck of the woods thats where the best wine lists are. Dodge any sort of national chain even if they are high end. Also make sure you clear this with you sweetie so she doesn't think your doing a high dollar dinner and gifts. I mean you don't want to be picking up a $400 dinner tab and buying jewelry. My only regret is i didn't also do this for our anniversary. We still exchange gifts and it sucks balls.

School roxxed, everytime I go on a downswing or lose some money whatever feel like [censored] and want to die, than the next day I go to school and have a good laugh and feel immediatly better. Even going there with a [censored] up attitude or not saying anything in the morning my project group always makes me feel better at the end of the day. School makes it worth while even though I dont do much for school I enjoy going there. I could see the same with work after I finish school, but the poker money is nice for extra money. Or money when I move out (hopefully soon).

John,

I know how you're feeling, I think. I went through some sort of similar [censored] last semester. At the time when I should have been organizing my future, studying super hard, focussing intensely on graduate school applications, I found more and more that I just wanted to play poker and hang out with my friends. It was like everything that seemed like where I "should" be going was not for me, partly because I hadn't really chosen it (i.e. pressure from parents and the like).

I don't really know the specific details of your existential crisis, but I think Miles is super on the mark about people who tell you to "do what you love." If we all honestly followed this advice how many of us would be working 9 - 5?

Probably the best I can come up with is take some time and just be honest about what you enjoy doing. Find a way to work that into to [censored] you are obligated to do. PM or AIM if you want to talk more.

What it do,
Ben
