Between David Newhan and Julio Franco, the pinch hitting situation is looking pretty awful lately

I believe that Franco is hitting between .280 and .300 as a pinch hitter, though he's been totally non-productive as a starter.

I'm not sure the Mets pinch-hitting is any worse than the league average.

Franco was 4/13 as a pinch hitter entering that AB.

LOL at Mike and Chris with the authoritative "Jeter would get a base hit in that situation" about Reyes final AB last night.

Kinda like he got one in the 8th inning on Saturday, I guess, huh?

32% of the time, no out is recorded which will result in bases loaded, no outs(run expectancy 2.33).

How do you figure 32% when he swings away?

Anyone think, with the way Reyes has swung the bat the last week and with the 1B playing back there, Reyes should have laid one down? The thought crossed my mind at the time.

I read "swings away" as just meaning a regular at bat (not sacrificing)...

The Julio Franco discussion made me think a little ...

I love the novelty and story of 50 year old Franco being on the team, with some success.

But Craig Wilson is out there and can be signed for the minimum. He also plays 1B, and is not far removed from a 27 HR season. In fact, my personal feeling is that he still can put up those kind of numbers if someone would give him an every day job and leave him there.

So, wouldn't it be better to have Craig Wilson coming off the bench as your right-handed PH and back-up 1B than Franco? If Franco is so valuable as a personality, can't we make him a coach?

Since last Saturday the Mets have been more frustrating than any team I've ever watched. This team when out of synch is sooo hard to watch. Thank God for the consistency of Heilman though, I was afraid he was getting to good.

Needle,

The easy cure to this is to NOT watch the Mets every night. Haha. Blasphemy, I know. But I didn't watch the game tonight and I come home and I turn on ESPNEWS and the Mets score scrolls across 6-2. I can't be in a better mood.

Today's news is that Green has a foot injury and is out, day-to-day.

Leaves us a little thin until Alou returns. Milledge probably would have come up, but he's just now returning from an injury. And Ben Johnson hasn't been doing much at all in AAA.
