Convo I had with a player who I deeply respect and who has made like 450k from poker.

Snakekilla88: Over past week I have been grinding 3/6nl on stars usually 5 tables
Snakekila88: I ran so hot in January (25k month), but now I am down 5k over not a huge sample but I am still frustrated, I notice it is tougher to get your stack in and the games are certainly getting tougher. Each mistake I make, its hard to earn money back, I mean I constantly have to be on my A game.

Snakekilla88: yeah the games suck right now, and maybe I should be thankful for the nice run and cash out before I lose my roll. Like I saw Colombos post in bbv and other people complaining and it scares me.

hi snake,

this is precisely the attitude that i have with all of my friends. i try to tell them- where they are, they could kill PP 2/4-5/10 no doubt. but when they run bad on stars they complain to me... and all i can say is that they're probably marginal winners or breakeven players in these conditions. Whenever they complain about running bad, I try to tell them that i take three or four of those a day or a session, and there is nothing that anyone can do. the bottomline is that they're fighting variace wars and they aren't overrolled enough for the variance wars to be acceptable on the negative end.

i dont' knopw what your situation is like entirely, i saw you started moving up fast. this may be the situation that you're in. i'm trying to be as honest as i can with everyone i know, the games aren't easy. for some reason i'm all [censored] up and when the games get harder, i move up, go figure. luckily, it has turned out okay for me, but i am trying to tell people that stars now is two, three levels different than party six months to a year ago. not everyone wants to take the hit to their ego or play for lower stakes. i know the second i'm not able to beat 2/4+, i won't move down any lower becuase the money won't matter to me. i know it sounds greedy that i don't want any less than say, 200.hr, but what can i say? it's true/

Out of all players I played against, you definitely ran over me the most. I'm good, but I'm not that good. 4.5ptbb over 70k in March. If you got some hands I'd looove some analysis; I don't post hands much anymore cuz there's few posters who's opinion I really respect.

there's a fallacy in there.

if you get owned hard, likely you are not above average. the average of the players who are not playing really doesn't matter at all. if you're getting owned, and aren't just running like [censored], it mans you're likely below average in the game.
