I have just done a search on Stars for wickss79 and it appears he is not currently playing.

This does not make me happy.

Yeah but you'd rather pick up the blinds without a contest am I right?

[/ QUOTE ]Assuming that no pocket pairs would fold to my shove, I would rather have a dominated hand shove at me. Even QJ wouldn't be bad to be against. Big stack usually comes my way. I get to be a bully.

It would be worse if they merely call and I miss. Then I would have to outplay them.

Eh I'm just some idiot with his small bankroll stuck in neteller. Ask some of the better players here what they think. And best of luck to you Wicks.

Ok, I don't dispense much poker advice, but I'm going to now. Wickss biggest leak is making these silly "standard" raises with a mediocre holding, then calling when somebody comes over the top because he feels he is pot committed. He has got to stop doing this to be successful. Will you all please back me up on this one.

[/ QUOTE ]

The important lesson to be learned here is to always have a plan with your raise. So, before you decide if you should raise/limp/fold, you have to look at all the stacks left to act and figure how that affects your situation.

In the J9o hand, it is not so much the other stacks, but his stack that is important because it is the shortest. So, when he raises J9o here, he has to be willing to call a shove with it because he is committed. However, this is not a hand to be doing this with. J9o is a hand that you want as much FE as possible. So, you need to be shoving it. That being said, with his stack size, the current blind level and the big stack in the BB, I doubt J9o is a +EV shove here.

There are situation where you might have a hand that you want to standard raise with the intention of calling that is not a monster....like 88 or something like that. You know if you shove, a certain range will call with is usually bigger pairs and over cards. Well, those same hands will shove, but so might 33 or some smaller pps that might fold to your shove.

Just something to think about. But remember, always know how you will respond to different action from any player left to act, before you act your self.

[/ QUOTE ]To my newfound Argentinian friend, MrTynKyn, thank you for chiming in and backing me up. The raise and call AI with mediocre hands all the time just isn't going to cut it. And, believe me, I have been working him over via the bluetooth.
