Come on Gomez break the game open right now. [/ QUOTE ] He hit it decently, Andruw plays so shallow though... 1 run there is kind of negative, but Perez looks good so we can hope. |

Ok, Ollie did his job. He's coming out now, so let's get a big in-unison: "NO SCHOENWEISS, PLEASE WILLY"

Perez has been spectacular again, is it too early to say he's the real deal?

^^mbillie, not sure what to make of that either...i mean, he showed tremendous potential a couple of years back but really regressed since then until just now...i'm not sure if peterson has clicked with him or whether he's just running hot at the moment...he clearly has the stuff, hopefully he can keep his control and continue this...
definitely exciting though... |

I said it at the time to anyone that would listen (and maybe on here too) that Omar getting the Pirates to *throw in* Oliver Perez in the Nady for R. Hernandez trade is going to go down as one of the great swindles of all time.

Hernandez trade is going to go down as one of the great swindles of all time. [/ QUOTE ] Let's not forget that Omar was reportedly about to swing Ollie for Scott Linebrink, but depending on which reports you believe, either the Padres backed out of the deal, or the deal did not get done before the deadline. Swindle? Maybe not. Fortunate? Very! |

The fact that he got the Pirates to toss Perez into that deal as a throw in was a total heist, irrespective of whether he was thinking of turning him around for Linebrink, who (at least at the time) was one of the top middle relievers in the game, which addressed a key need.
