[ QUOTE ] btw, i'm sure this has been discussed, but when you reach supernova what's the best value for spending points. Do you just do the 100k for $1,500 or something else. I assume you could get bestbuy or walmart gift cards from the consierge service? This might be beneficial for tax reasons etc. [/ QUOTE ] I have been wondering this too how are you spending your points. |

[ QUOTE ] it would be more accurate to say poker is no more dead than flipping houses or day trading its just a fad that comes and goes,, oh wait that F**reaking sucks, but its the truth [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, because the 10,000 real money cash game players on Stars at any given time proves this. Good point. [/ QUOTE ] if you dont think we are gona have less and less players and the ones that will remain will be better than the players you are playing against right now you live in fantacy land, when was the last time you remember seeing the active stars players over 100K? I havent seen it reach that level in months now... but I know its hard for you to accept because you are making a living at this but its inevitable. best case scenario we have another year with beatable games at decent levels... |

[/ QUOTE ] People enjoy playing poker. 90% or so are losers, but they still play. As long as there are games going, the best players will find ways to win. As games get tougher, mediocre players who were slight winners will become losers. These players then play less or step down, and then the games become better. It's the circle of life of the poker world. I've personally seen it and it is what RW is referring to in his article. I'm under the impression that you are one of the mediocre players who is now struggling to win. I am sorry to hear that. |

Pokerboy you are a dick, but you are right. But i still maintain that 200nl is rigged.
But it is true that 90% of the players are losers, so if even half of them get sick of losing and quit we still have thousands of donkeys to feed us. U forget that 2p2 will keep releasing cash game books, and that will stir up the games for another year or so atleast, same thing when they release all the harrington books. Only problem is that the new info will make the game a bit tuffer, but not to tuff since it wont teach them how to adjust to players who can adjust to how they play etc........ |

Online games will likely get tougher, but there will always be people putting money on the internet with the intention of gambling it away. Granted these people will be rarer, but they will still be there. Today I sat at a table with two players that had VPIPs >70%. These guys weren't trying to win. They were having fun throwing money around. It's hard for us to imagine this because every decision is based on EV and we don't think about it any other way.
Also, keep in mind that most of these sites are now spending lots of money to draw in new players abroad. There is a lot of potential in untapped markets. Just the other day I was reading about how PokerStars is advertising in several European/Asian countries now. Japan just had it's first poker tournament series. To say that online poker is just going to die is silly. The average player will be a little better, but this game isn't going anywhere. |

And I forgot to mention that eventually we will have licensed, regulated poker here in the U.S.
When that happens (it may be a few years) I expect to see another influx of new players (although nowhere near as big as the boom). |

I also forget to mention pokerboy, that we have room to improve ourselves, Ive only played this game for 6 months, and im not sure about you, but i feel that every few weeks i still learn new stuff just cause every hand is so unique and complex. I go back and analyze it myself to see if bets checks, calls should have been used differenty and it teaches me somthing.

[/ QUOTE ] I wish I could be as optimistic as you about poker (FINALLY) becoming legitimized and regulated here in the U.S. Let's just say I'm hopeful. I believe if this does happen, the previous poker boom will seem like nothing compared influx of new players that'll result from new legislation being passed. Think of all the news coverage and the increase in poker-related advertising this would generate. Not to mention the sites would make it a lot easier to get money online and scammy ripoff ewallets will finally become a thing of the past. |
