we have well over 100 games to play, 5 games is not much. like i said, i will really be surprised if they are an al division factor in the stretch.

Here's my wild prediction for the night:
Yankees win the AL East, Baltimore wins the AL Wild Card. Boston misses the playoffs. |

i can only agree with the first part. i think baltimore are a flash in the pans and had boston at #2, but right now they look awful. their rotation is in tatters, they need arroyo and clement to be huge which won't happen all season.

exactly. boston is sucking, and baltimore is still doing okay. that's why i made the prediction.

14/16 yep. And while our offense has been great, it was decent before this. The key to our winning has been the excellent starting pitching. Solid pitching can overcome weak offense and bad defense on those days when we get bouts of those.
Wang is a very dependable #5 and Brown is a very good #4. We have our best 3 pitchers going this weekend in RJ, Pavano, and Moose. I predict a sweep of the flailing red sox. |

The AL East race was inevitably going to tighten up (well, at least the Red Sox - Yankees part of it). The Yanks are on a roll and the Sox have been mediocre as of late.
We Sox fans can take a little comfort in knowing we've played fewer home games (19) and more road games (26) than any team in the American League. Meanwhile, the Yankees have had a majority of their games at home (25 vs. 21). The Orioles have had 60% of their games at home (27 vs. 18). If we project out the home and road records, the final AL East standings will be: Orioles: 107-55 Red Sox: 93-69 Yankees: 88-74 Hmmmmm. Those Orioles have a damn good 13-5 road record. |

And the Yankees beat the Tigers, by a score of 4-3. They now move a half a game ahead of the Sox.

they need arroyo and clement to be huge which won't happen all season.
clement has been a 'good' pitcher for close to two years now and arroyo has been solid for close to a full seasons worht of baseball. personally i am quite glad where the sox are today. as dynasty has pointed out, they have spent a ton of time on the road not to mention the pithcing issues (schilling being out basically all year, wells getting into a groove and being disrupted and not having miller for 1 1/3 months) nevermind the hitting issues save this post, ill be back in early august after the sox make a deadline deal to aquire whatever they need to come over the top down the stretch. until then, the CoC (collection of clowns) can savor all the glory of of being in second plcae and not third |
