[/ QUOTE ]

No, but the turn is a fold imo. This is at least aces up and probably a straight for this villain. I would check the flop sometimes.

I think I'd prefer to have one clean out before doing this.

villain is 17/9/1

anyone think about checking the turn ?

[/ QUOTE ]

No. You have two pair, and are well ahead of villain's calling range on the flop.

However, the check-raise now suggests that you're now behind.

When the check-raise on the turn comes, a 17/9/1 limp/calling UTG can't have a very wide range - I think it is almost precisely - JQs, 99, TT. The 1 PF aggression factor suggests that he is normally passive, and this is a huge amount of strength the villain is claiming.

Turn raises are almost always able to beat top pair; I can't imagine what you're ahead of here - only T9 and K9 (and weird bluffs) and I don't think they're in the villain's range.

why did you check the flop?

also, at this level, calling pf is not great. You're mostly playing this hand to hit draws when in position. When you hit those draws you are unlikely to get paid off oop.

Preflop: Hero is SB with 9, 8.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't understand why you'd check the flop, but I guess you need to call the turn raise and hope for a cheap showdown.

You're well ahead of villains' range currently, but I don't think you're ahead of villain's calling range if you re-raise on the turn.
