[ QUOTE ]
I quit playing internet poker at the beginning of this year. For all of 1996 all I played was the 6-max 100NL on PS. I did great for about 300,000 hands and then the laws were changed and I couldnt easily beat the game anymore. It was a huge dissapointment because I got so used to the easy money I was making playing 6-8 tables. So I quit playing and lived off of my profits for about 9 months. I want to get back to playing poker and decided to really commit to the PS turbo sngs. I played about 3000 of the $16 sngs in January/Feb of this year and did pretty good according to my stats but it was difficult to maintain because I hit one of those 500 game break even streaks that was just torture. As bad as having huge losses occassionally in the cash game I found this long drawn out torture to be worse. That being said...with 60 bucks in my PS account I am 12-tabling the 6.50's until I have 800$ to start the 16's again. I'm half way there after 10 days and I will say that this is a very demanding way of making money. True grinding like never before. I've decided to take a short term break on gaining poker knowledge and will instead focus on ways of making my poker life easier. What I mean by this is that I am not going to put so much focus on becomming a better player but instead am going to try and figure out how the hell guys like Venetian can play 4000 games a month and not wanna kill themselves. I think it is all about just sticking to the strategy that works for you and really keep it as abc as possible. I can already feel myself becoming tilt-proof because it is obvious that with this many games every day I am geting lucky here and there where I really shouldnt. It dosent feel like poker since I dont do any hand reading other than the last few rounds. I love reading this ICM stuff because it is pathetic that it is new to me as a mostly cash game player. Funny thing is that when I played these things early this year it was prety obvious to me that once the blinds hit the 50-100 level its mostly (not totally yet) a push or fold game and most people have no idea to play when there are 4 players left. It seems to me that the future of sngs is that only the guys who can sit and play the 'volume game' without getting burnout will get the money. I cant imagine making money at a level much higher than the 16's as a volume player because I would imagine you are against more observant players who not only now ICM but will be reading you as well as not making mistakes early. I do read on here that there is such a thing as a high-stakes sng player and I give huge props to anybody who is pulling this off for longer than a year. FWIW yoga [/ QUOTE ] Wow I don't know how people do it, if I played 10 tables at at time and played for 6 hours every day for 1 month I would only reach 1800 games. How sad is that. I wish I had the ability to play like 25 tables at once. |

SNG's aren't exactly poker, they are more their own game, which are short-run largely based on lever-pulls like a slot machine. [/ QUOTE ] No, they are just like every other form of poker. You just keep putting your money in with an equity advantage. [ QUOTE ] This can lead to more of a helpless feeling than cash IMO, where generally I feel the level of game I'm playing has much more of a day-to-day affect on results. [/ QUOTE ] Variance is demonstrably higher in cash games, so your "feeling" is exactly that and the math disagrees with you. Every one of your arguments in this post basically boils down to "LOL donkaments". SNGs are real poker. |

The fkers always fold when I push with a big pair. Please send the rag-callers over to my tables. |

Its more like an offshoot of the game with several twists that make correct strategy way less intuitive and more mathematical. Im pretty sure any good sng pro would feel this way. Cash game is the truest form of poker because $EV = CEV and because you can rebuy as much as you want. No BS blind changes and things, just straightforward balls-in-your-mouth, poker. also, what makes you think variance is higher in cash games? thats absurd... |

i would actually want to hear opinions on this one. [/ QUOTE ] I would say it's because in a 9 man SnG you're limited by 4 possible outcomes: Lose $55 Win $45 profit Win $80 profit Win $170 profit with no inbetweens and a cap on the amount you can win. |
