Seriously, George Dickel. Widely available, better than Beam, cheaper than Jack. I think the #12 is better than Jack - at the same price as Beam - but even the #8 is really good, and both better and cheaper than Beam.

Have you tried the W. L. Weller yet, RDH? I def. agree w/ you that the Dickel is a good buy in bourbon, and that it's better than Jack and Jim. However, the Weller costs me about the same, and the stuff is truly amazing. I don't know how stuff so good costs so little.

Oh, and Mike, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for that stuff. I do enjoy Irish whiskey every now and then, so I'm curious how it'll stack up in price/quality to my usual purchases, Bushmills and Redbreast.

You want to know if you're going to enjoy drinking something which is in your house. And your method of discovery was to go to the internet and ask strangers on a message board whether or not you will like it. Interesting choice...

He just wants to know which way the wind is blowing on this important issue so he can then determine whether he likes or not and not be out of step with the cool people.

I know there's going to be a launch very soon. I'll ask the guy for more details and let you know.

Not available in the US yet. Apparently only in Ireland and the UK.

I believe this to be an acceptable Jack Daniel's alternative at roughly half the price. Particularly since Jack lowered the proof from 88 to 80 a few years ago and seems to be raising the price as well. A friend turned me onto it some time ago and I pick some up from time to time. I don't know if it's cheaper because of quality or lack of name brand recognition, with mixer it doesn't taste too different.
