The kid didn't have $100,000 to his name a year ago. There is no way that taking it from him now will "ruin him" in any way.

With all due respect, it doesn't matter. These arguments are worthless. 100K is 100K and its a lot of $$ no matter who you are. You cannot base punishments on how badly someone will be hurt finacially. Let's do what's right and come up with a good proposal to send to the sites. We must do what's right here.

to be fair, I think ppl make mistakes, and while I agree with Zee's punishment (should have been harsher at stars) I'm not saying he's beyond forgiveness or that he should be killed or whatever. My outrage is at the morons that think cheating is ok cause he didnt mean it or that he should be dealt with lightly because we all make mistakes.

You need to wake up Indy.
Cheating when playing for money is risky.

It's in no way harsh that you get the funds you accumulated thru cheating confiscated.
You make it sound like they took his money....but if he won it by cheating it's not really his now...is it?

You try to go in to a casino and cheat on roulette and see how many of them let you keep the funds and welcome you back if you get caught.

Sure forgivness is nice...but thats not the same as accepting any kind of behaviour or never punishing it.
Cheat...get caught...loose your winnings...get banned.
That how it goes...no matter how young and innocent you are.

I can agree many responses is very harsh and thats maybe unneccessary although very understandable.
I too think it's good to forgive whenever possible.
For sure he should get a second chance if he learn to play by the rules.
But not on any of the sites he cheated and it's better they sieze too much than too little of his funds so he gets the message.
As long as it's +EV him and others will keep doing it.

We simply cannot let people play 6 accounts in the same tournament and collude to rob honest players of hundreds of thousands of dollars

Here's my proposal:

1. Don't take his $. You cannot prove that he cheated for it.

2. Remove all accounts except for the ZeeJustin main account.

3. Give him a 3 month suspension from the sites.

4. Warn him that if he ever does any multiaccounting like this ever again the punishment will be severe (like it is now).

5. ?? You tell me?

Man, I don't even like the guy and I know he cheated but still, the punishment of stripping him of 100K is too much.

[/ QUOTE ]

Is it wrong to take stolen money from a thief?

You seem to be missing a really really really important point here: When you cheat in a poker game you are not winning money. You are stealing money from the other players at the table.

You mention playing in big tournaments but not yet getting lucky enough to win one. Have you considered that the problem is you are playing against people who are colluding against you? How many of your buy ins have you lost because someone was cheating against you? Even if it wasn't on the hand you got eliminated on, maybe it was earlier when you got pushed out of a pot you would have won. If you won those chips, then maybe you don't get eliminated later.

Maybe that doesn't bother you...

[ QUOTE ]
We simply cannot give online poker rooms the ability to send out an email and tell a guy that he's out 100 grand.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would agree that I would feel better if there was some type of due process in these situations. Legalization and regulation by the U.S. government would be welcome. Some kind of certifying group wouldn't be terrible either.

I think a public apology would go a long way toward softening attitudes. You cannot forgive someone and give them a second chance unless they admit they were wrong and apologize.

Also too, can you imagine the look on his face and the feeling he got when Party sent him that email. I, for one, am a little bet concerned personally for his mental health as a person. Cheater or not, he is human, and as such has rights, and id be concerned for his well-being.

The point is people who are disagreeing politely (like the OP) are not being met with reason and sane discourse (sometimes), they are being met with people who if this were real life, would be running around with flaming sticks, or getting ready to stone them.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree and don't mean to come on too harsh. I just want everyone to understand that as poker players and capitalistic people we all look for every edge possible and I'm sure a lot of us are doing things that are against US law or the Party Poker contract. So we should all be careful about branding the wicked because most of us are in the same boat as Justin, just not on the same level.
