[ QUOTE ]
This is all fine and good. However, it almost seems to me that anyone sending a message to their representatives in Congress is effectively putting himself on a list of people interested in getting the smack laid down on them if/when they decide to crack down on online gambling. [/ QUOTE ] This is pretty absurd. For one, I doubt that they would try to enforce this bill by cracking down on individual users. They will attempt to enforce it at the ISP level. Basically, "Don't allow your users to visit these sites." Plus, it's not like your congressman will compile a list of everyone in favor of online gambling and just hand it off to the cops if this thing passes. |

[/ QUOTE ] I don't think so Patrick. Congressmen have other things to do than snitch on their contituents, especially something that may not even currently be a crime. It's not a priority, and I think many of them consider how it could potentially (in a worst case) play out in reelection. (They run for Congress every two years, so essentially they are running for reelection most of the time.) |

In addition to emailing, take the time to write a letter and post it. Email doesn't hold much weight, ESPECIALLY over an online gambling bill.

Dear Representative XXX,
I am writing in regard to H.R. 4777: The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act being introduced by Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Rick Boucher (D-VA). I wish to inform you that I am STRONGLY OPPOSED to this bill and among my friends, family, and business associates, my view is not in the minority. Those whom I have spoken with commonly support their opinion with two arguments: 1. Passage of this bill would be in direct opposition to the World Trade Organization's free trade ruling. What effects would American businesses feel if the WTO and its member nations were to impose economic sanctions as a result of this action? 2. In this day of state run lotteries, scratch-off games, and easily accessible casinos, banning online gambling is not only hypocritical, but financially unreasonable. Acceptance and regulation of these sites would be much more beneficial to the US than banning them out-right. We will be watching your vote on this matter closely as it will influence our future votes in the XXth district. Please speak for the majority of the citizens in your district and vote against this bill. Sincerely, XXX TOWN, STATE |

After researching my politicians I have found out that..
Senator Blanche Lincoln has only a stance on illegal sports gambling. However, she has received PACs from Harrah's and others. A hefty sum a few years back actually. Senator Mark Pryor has received a very small amount of PACs from Harrah's. No votes regarding any type of gambling that I could find however. The bad news, every single of my reps voted yes to ban Internet gambling by credit card. However this is all I know. |

i have done a little reading and it looks like 2000 was the last time these ass clowns tried to get this thru. it didnt make it, and the reason was jack abramoffs (sp?) lobbying on behalf of the gaming sites. apprently jack was a mover and we all know he is off the playing field. however, the gaming industry also has a LOT more money to spend now......
