That sucks. You should've gotten it all in and started dancing and singing "I Make It Rain". If you make it on TV I'll tell all my friends how I'm up like $3k on you lifetime fish.

Not that it matters since the TV poker boom is over, but you guys who actually know how to play should've put more effort into cultivating a persona. Talk at the table, be a character. A lot of the old live pros are good at it because it's the same skill they use to keep the whales entertained. Geeky quiet kids don't make good TV.

I would love if someone would do a show where Me, durrr, Aba, and two more (Not saying I’m necessarily one of the best 5 online players and don’t wanna make a top 5 list) each play HU v Ivey, Doyle, Negreanu, etc. Like, we each pair up with a pro and play best of 3 HU 200bb freezouts. Each team puts up $2mm or whatever and whichever team wins most out of 5 splits the prize amongst themselves. Online pros v Live pros. Then maybe America would realize how it really is. Anyways, I’m ranting now.

They've been working the internet pros vs. live pros theme for quite a while on TV shows. If you could surround that with big amounts of cash I'm sure the producers would love it.

Another frustrating aspect of it is that I didn’t get a chance to prove myself. America still thinks that my whole Day 2 table (besides me) is full of the best poker players in the world, when I would’ve salivated over playing any of them HU. (Maybe wouldn’t have salivated over one or two but would surely be a favorite) I know that I need to get over this part. It shouldn’t bother me what the public thinks, and I’m working on not caring as much.

I think it’s really unfortunate that America would rather watch bad, loud poker than extremely high level thinking from the true best players in the world, but I guess they don’t know any better.

colorful personalities are what people want to see on TV, in regards to any show. the average viewer doesnt care about high level thinking processes, they want to see alot of money move around and people talk smack, even in a friendly way, to each other. its entertainment, you have to show personality, either in a good or bad way. its probably way +EV for your TV poker career to splash around and act like a jackass

[/ QUOTE ]

That's the part that bothers me. If we are going to consider poker a sport (not saying it is or that we should, just to make a point), when making poker shows, the producers shouldn't care at all about colorful personalities or how much someone talks at the table. They should care about getting the real best players and having the public watch them. I'd much rather watch a basketball game between the two best teams than one between the two teams who'll put up a better show. It's the same thing. Who the [censored] cares about Hellmuth whining and calling other people names? Or Sammy Farha and Eli Elezra tilting off huge amounts of money? Meh, we've seen it before. And even if we hadn't, we should only care to watch a player based on his skill, not on his personality. I mean, even if I had never played a hand of poker before I'd say that. We're watching a game, not a movie. We are seeking for skill.

Problem is exactly what Jman said: people at home think that those are the best and will think Jman is just a random nit. And it'll be pretty hard to change their view. So yeah, I also feel pretty meh that Jman could not 'prove himself' and show that these guys are not the best at all. It's not about caring or not caring about what the public thinks, it's just about caring that people at home find out the truth.

Many more people will watch Yankees v. Red Sox over Astros v. White Sox or Cardinals v. Tigers. The same translates here.

QFT.

And people thinking aba's performance on last year's HSP was anything but disasterous can't see the big picture when it comes to TV presentation.
