I was utterly hypnotized by this episode, then I almost had a seizure watching the preview.

So, yeah--I'd say it was fairly effective.

One thing I'd like to remind everyone of real quick:

Remember when Kate and co. went and rescued Alex's boyfriend? Remember he was getting the "Little Alex" treatment (see Clockwork Orange)?

This was the only such reference throughout the entire show, but I think far too relevant to simply be dismissed as just one of many weird things that the Others do. I suspect this topic will come up again, and it will explain why seemingly decent folks inevitably end up being duplicitous and, well..."different."

I think Juliet and maybe Locke and maybe even Jack have all been through a little of this treatment.

I don't know, but I think it will come up again, and it will explain some things.

Oh, yeah, and by the way--the title of this week's episode, "One of Us," was the chant of the freaks at the end of Tod Browning's classic film "Freaks."

As we can only assume that Juliet is the one being assimilated, the inference (if you choose to believe it) is that the Losties are somehow "freaks."

I would have thought this episode was v. good if the hype before hand didn't have me expecting even more. Although anyone who has been paying attention would have known just about everything except the implant.

Yet no mother can come to term with her child before Juliette comes up with her miracle drug. So how the [censored] was Ben born?

I found this interesting/important as well. Of course, they know the smallest little details about their lives, i.e. Sawyer killing that innocent man with no one within miles.
