Confirm/Deny,

Does Bourdain actually still work at Les Halles. I'm reasonably sure he's not longer cooking there, but I wasn't sure if he was still attached to the place at all.

I would wager there's more non-NY folks that are aware of Les Halles than Peter Luger.

It has been 5 years since I have been in the areas mentioned however theses were the best i can remember.

Belen/Los Lunas New Mexico, somewhere in between there is a beef jerkey place and a little restraunt called El Rodeo, ran by 2 brothers from mexico, it is one of those build your own burritto places that seems to be springing up everywhere, but get the hot green chili on whatever you get and you won't regret it, best flavor i have ever had.

Albuquerque: On gold in downtown there is a place called Gold Street Cafe, Breakfast burritto smothered in red with fried potatoes is great and they have awesome coffee.

Then on central, somewhere around montgomery there is a small burger joint called Griffs (not the truck stop), for like 5 bucks you get a triple meat triple cheese burger, fries and a coke. It is real good but don't stop if you aren't hungry.

Also the original Garcias somewhere near downtown (no clue where sorry) has the best authentic mexican food.

Evan,

Just FYI in case you want to stop, you are pretty much totally wrong and MrMon is totally right about Les Halles being known.

However, it IS good to know that it's one of the few places in the financial district to get good food late.

[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, I will stop. Of the people I've talked to about it or gone there with, none had known about it previously. That being said, my circle of friends are far from what I would call informed about the food community and I guess I was misled about how many people know that place. Either way, if only one person is able to get a nice steak and fries after a long day at work instead of eating another 10 piece McNugget meal I will feel vindicated in my efforts.

There's a new-ish restaurant in Atlanta called Redfish a Creole Bistro. It has the best cajun food I've ever eaten outside of Louisiana. My mom and grandmother, who both lived in NO for many years (my mom and dad both went to Tulane and my grandfather taught there) said the same thing.

It's relatively cheap but completely out of the way. I think it's next door to a place you can rent storage garages or a big truck repair shop or something like that on Memorial past Little 5.

It's another great place I found thanks to opentable.com

EDIT
Also, since Atlanta isn't really a huge food destination, pretty much everything not named Emeril's, The Varsity and The Original Chik-Fil-A is unknown. So, if you are new or visiting with a SO, check out Canoe, which I reviewed here

According to the webstie Elvis Garcia is the executive chef at the downtown location and Carlos Llaguno Garcia is at the Park Ave. location.

Gildwulf,
Another really good cheap sushi place is Sushi on Bloor really good value and good sushi.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ya, sushi on bloor is great but is clearly in every guidebook and is the first sushi place mentioned there, usually.

I think Sushi Inn in Yorkville is mega-overrated, although quite a few friends rave about it. I went there and I felt like I was on a sushi conveyer belt; the waiters barely spoke and the sushi was pretty average, imo.

Dibs,

http://www.leshalles.net/

"the Les Halles Brasseries are also the home base of Chef-at-Large Anthony Bourdain, author of the best selling Kitchen Confidential (Bloomsbury, May 2000) and host of The Travel Channel’s No Reservations, and co-author with Lajaunie of the Brasserie Les Halles Cookbook."

I think that means "he hasn't actually cooked here in ages, but he gets to be a partner or something here because his name is worth $$$$$$."

Hey, a fellow Albuquerquean! Sorry, don't know about El Rodeo.

Very cool place. It's a shame that Cameron's on Silver and Yale closed down....I loved their breakfast burritos and coffee.

You're thinking of Griff's, by Central and Wyoming. Never had it, may give it a try. For a burger, I've always liked the one at O'Niell's, which is an Irish pub on Central and Washington.

It's on Fourth Street and Mountain. Very good stuff. Ron's Camino Real on Yale also has great Mexican food, as does Casa de Benavidez on Fourth street, around Alameda. There's a zillion Mexican (New Mexican) restaurants around Albuquerque...ranging from awesome to subpar. Most tourists probably wind up at Garduno's or Sadie's, which aren't bad but aren't the best either. Garduno's has the best margaritas in town.

That's probably pretty close, and it would be my guess that he keeps his hand in a few times a year if he feels like it. And when he does, there's a big announcement to the regulars. But other than that, I think he's a little busy.

Of course, how much does Emeril cook as his places any more either?

We need a thread for each city to do this right, and then just have them archived so that when you are going on a random trip you can look it up and go.

[/ QUOTE ]

I really think we need a 2p2 Local type site where users can put recommendations in by major metro city.

Maybe I'll put this together. We get sooo many "I'm going to xxx city, what should I do?" type of questions.
