I've argued this many times in the past. Even without the Super Bowls, Tom Brady is better than Peyton Manning.

That being said, there are still a few of the all time greats that are better than both.

Some QB ratings for a career (which I think is the best way to evaluate a QB's success)and some other notables

1.Steve Young 96.8
2.Joe Montana 92.3
3.Dan Marino 86.4
4.Brett Favre 85
5.Troy Aikman 81.6
6.Warren Moon 80.9
7.Jon Elway 79.9

Current
Peyton Manning 94.4
Tom Brady 88.4

You obvioulsy have to factor in some things like how good a guys offense was (like Elway's first 7-8 years his teams were not that good he pretty much took them to the SB's by himself)I also think we forget how good Young really was maybe because he sat for a few years.

Montana= Rice, Taylor, Craig, Clarke.
Aikman= Irvin, Harper, Novacek, Emmit
Young= Rice, Watters, Brent Jones, William Floyd,
Manning= Harrison, Edge, Wayne, Dallas Clark
Brady= Reche Caldwell, David Patten, David Givens, Antawn Smith
Marino= Duper, Clayton,
and Elway later years= Rod Smith, Mcaffrey, Terrell Davis,

The fact that you say Brady is "Useless" without the rings is such a joke considering what he has had to work with so far in his career.

[/ QUOTE ]
The west coast offence certainly inflated Young's QB rating.
Namath being considered a toip 30 QB is ridiculous. Career completion % under 50, career qb rating under 70.
My top 3 in alphabetical order.
Manning, Marino, Montana.

looks like the defense and special teams helped with Brady's rings a TON

every quarterback's production falls off in the playoffs, Brady isn't some golden god

[/ QUOTE ]

I can see why so many people hate him because he is THAT good. Manning is that good too, they are the best 2 in the game and will both be top 5 when they hang them up.

QB rating isn't really an accurate enough measure in this kind of discussion. Unless you really believe Young was 20% better than Elway?

And look at what VY did with a sub-par rating this season.

No I dont, but it gives you a good measure of how accurate a passer someone was. It also shows you how good Brady and Manning are and how they could be the top 2 ever by the time they are done. So excluding B and M my top five that I have seen play

1. Montana (Hands down)
2. Elway
3. Marino (was just flat out nasty)
4. Young
5. Aikman/Favre Tie

I don't think Steve Young gets the recognition he deserves in these debates. This is surely because he had only half as many attempts as a Marino or a Favre, but his rate statistics were insane. Better YPA, Comp%, and TD/INT rate than anybody, as far as I can tell, even Peyton. And, of course, he was one of the best running QBs ever, and no other QB in the discussion is even close.

True, playing in Walsh's West Coast Offense helped his stats, but playing 10-15 years ago hurt his stats, relative to present-day QBs.

I think it comes down to Young, Marino, and Manning.

Of course, Brady has not played his best in some of these big games either, but his defense and ST have carried him.

sure. but I didn't start a thread saying "Tom Brady, Greatest QB of all time?"

You aren't adjusting for eras. 50% Completion in 1960 =! 50% in 2006.

Also to say the west coast offence inflated Young, but not Montana is pretty selective.
