what about having members of 2+2 do their own podcasting for the site?

Jared,

Thanks much for the post/summary. Frankly, it's a little depressing and disappointing that there's so much mod posturing and jockeying over stuff that at the end of the day does pretty much nothing of substance to improve the site, yet there's not serious discussion/support/planning to get initiatives going that would make this a fundamentally better experience for users, plus a significantly more valuable web property. Sure, mods don't get paid, but a smart mod could figure out ways to implement some of these proposals with contracting fees + possible revenue shares. On the bright side, at least there has been extensive discussion and consensus reached on the pressing issue of whether jiggling boobie avatars should be allowed in the Lounge.

In any case, I'll continue to offer suggestions that either 2+2 or other poker websites can feel free to take advantage of.

I think this type of attitude is expected and diasgree that it is necesarily disappointing. The mods here were brought on to improve the site through regulating posts using their intelligence, common sense, and the amount of time they spend on here. This is their area of expertise, and it is unsurprising that most of the discussion that they bring is focused on it. The vast majority of them, unlike you, probably don't have any knowledge about the technical aspects of operating a message board, as well as the broad ideas as to the most successful ways to increase popularity and revenue. This can be seen in the recent Travel and F&D forum proposals, which were supported by many mods, and Diebitter's quest to eventually have a different Lounge forum for every article of clothing.

It's also likely that most of them aren't even interested in helping out in the ways you proposed. Their current job description contains basically what they would be doing anyway if they weren't mods, plus deleting/banning a couple of people/threads a day. Let's face it, it's a lot easier to discuss jiggling breasts than to program a hand converter. I don't think we should hold their apathy against them, cosidering that they are not getting paid, and the admins haven't given much effort in discussing possible compensation for any future initiatives. After all, if someone like you hasn't been able to get the reds' attention about this, why would the mods think they could?

WRT the mod forum-

I think some of these ideas (specifically the hand coverter) were shot down because at the current level of staff at 2p2 HQ (which I'm pretty sure is "Mat") this is a bit too much.

If they're committed to adding staff, a lot of this get exponentially more doable.

Alex,

I was making my comments based on comments Mat has made about using the mods and the mod forum as a sounding board for improving the site.

Just want people to know the thread is not being ignored.

I don't have anything else to say to make people happy, however. The bottom line is we need help modernizing and have yet to find the right people.

Hopefully this will change soon. I am discussing things with some people, but nothing too good is going to happen in that arena in the very near future

Converter was shot down because they aren't going to add one unless someone is going to maintain it.

stabn,

Suckers walk, money talks!

I'm sure it wouldn't cost much at all to get someone under contract to build and maintain the 2+2 converter.

Again, I think a big part of the problem is that mods are not hired with any expectation of giving advice beyond improving the posting quality of their own forums or with any known qualifications of being able to do so. If Mat is serious about using the mods to make the overall site better, the hiring process should encourage and emphasize skills in areas such as web-design, programming, marketing, and business management. As far as I know, this has not been the case in any recent mod searches. I'm not sure what specific comments you are referring to (I skimmed through the "ask me" thread and didn't see anything), but he should also give some details about the direction the owners want the site to go in, to give the mods something to possibly expand on. Simply making comments like the one earlier in the thread is obviously not going to cut it.
