I absolutely hate the set up of the forums. I find it difficult to navigat through these forums, more so than any other site. I'm probably in the minority there, but just call it a personal preference.

[/ QUOTE ]

Go to "My Home" and spend a few minutes customizing your display preferences.

And personally I've never thought you came off as mean-spirited when you rib other players at the tables. When Helmuth walked onto the HSP and the first words out of your mouth were "yum yum" I lol'd.

Now I feel bad about about comparing your HSP play to that of the low limit Stars tables. I was only kidding...

DN's response in this thread makes total sense. Chen is a nice guy but definitely seems a bit socially awkward and like he would be nervous giving a radio interview.

Daniel, if you, or any other top pro, took the time to post in the strategy forums, I'm sure it would be well received. Unfortunately it seems that 99% of the posts I see from well known players (who aren't 2+2 regulars) are in NVG. God knows the MTT forum, among others, could use an injection of real strategy discussion from top pros who have been successful in major events.

Daniel,

-at the top of the page, click the "My Home" link
-next to "Display preferences..." click the "Edit" link
-under "Default display mode" select "Flat Mode"
-under "Default view" select "Collapsed Topics"
-under "Total parent posts..." type in "50"
-under "Total posts to show..." type in "99"
-then hit the "Submit" button at the bottom

That should make navigation less of a hassle. Anything to get you more involved in 2p2.

Am I the only one who opened this thread because I thought it meant Johnny Chan?

What I often question is whether or not "math players" are able to factor in the human element as much as they should. Based on talking with Bill and Chris Ferguson, they try to play poker in such a way that makes them impossible to exploit. That is a good strategy, but I could illustrate several scenarios where it wouldn't be the best strategy.

[/ QUOTE ]

that last sentence is a real gem. many poker strategies that are rooted in mathematics are often based on an underlying assumption that your opponents play well. if they actually don't play well, then it's often better to deviate.

one simple example is bet sizing. a theory purist will tell you that you should size your bets in a way that minimizes what information you reveal about your hand. so, for example, many players always bet x% of the pot in a given situation (or size their bets on a variety of factors like their position, effective stack sizes, current pot size etc., all factors independent of their hole cards). this approach is valid against astute players. on the other hand, if you are up against a weaker player, or one who doesn't quite know your game, or someone who has not been paying attention, etc., and you know he'll call a larger bet on the river when you have the best hand, then you are losing value by not doing so (similarly, if you think he'll fold to your normal bet size, but call something smaller, you are leaving money on the table and not playing optimally). you must adjust based on your opponents.

another simple example is bluffing frequencies. you can approximate how often you should bluff to maximize your ev. on the other hand, if your opponent is tilting he may be more likely to call in a given situation or if your opponent is ahead and trying to protect a win he may be more inclined to fold in a given situation. it's important to keep these things in mind.

i don't think any of these concepts contradict the math, just that when one crunches the numbers, one has to account for the tendencies of a particular opponent. i think many of the math purist types don't take these tendenices into account which is why they don't always play optimally.

i think the best players are those who understand the math, but also account for and adjust based on the human factors.

Daniel,

I realize you see yourself as a "joker" and you always like to "have a good time" with your friends, but don't you think imitating anyone who doesn't talk like you, when you talk to them, like you have routinely done with people for years now, is mockery?

If I ever meet you, I assumed it wouldn't bother you if I blatantly mocked you by talking like I was gay?

[/ QUOTE ]

If your imitiation sucked it would just bore me, but if you did a good one I would laugh right along with you.

I find politicial correctness offensive. As for offending people, I would never "mock" or mimick someone I didn't consider a friend. Bill is a good guy and he has a sense of humor. I don't think he was offended in the least. If he was, and said so, I would apologize to him and not do that to him again.

As for Ming, he is a buddy of mine also and we do that whole dialogue all the time. I rip on Scotty Nguyen even harder! I rip on Hellmuth, I rip on Ivey, Matusow, Juanda, Todd Brunson, Carlos Morensen, E-DOG, and pretty much any and all of my friends when I get a chance.

As for Asians, I just realized... dude, I married one! LOL, not that it would exclude me from being racist towards Asians, but man, most of my close friends from Toronto are either Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Philippino, of Chinese. I needle them all the time and they get me back by calling me "Guoy Lo" or "White Boy."

People need to lighten up and not take themselves so seriously.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh, C'mon Daniel, enough of the racist crap already...its like you just can't help yourself!

heh heh heh

but I do find it disturbing that in addition to this show we've seem him act in a mocking way to two other players of Asian/Eastern heritage on television in the last year. And while he might argue that he's playing around with his friends....I haven't seen him act in such a mocking way with any other player with the exception of Mattasow.

Chen deserved better and I think the poker community was cheated out of a chance for some educational and entertaining discussion.

Lets play : guess the race of this over sensitive poster.

Guess mine too, since I also find Negreanu's 'impressions' often distasteful.
