** The OFFICIAL NFL Mock Draft Thread **

Because I have no life...my first round mock draft.

1. Oakland Raiders: Adrian Peterson RB, Oklahoma. Despite the Raiders troubles at QB, Al Davis may want to try the free agent market for a QB and pick up a unique talent in Adrian Peterson.

2. Detroit Lions: Brady Quinn QB, Notre Dame. Oakland's pick makes Detroit's easier. Statistically, Kitna had a solid season. But he is very turnover prone and has proven to be incapable of leading the Lions to victory. Quinn has been trained under Charlie Weis' offensive system and is an elite prospect.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Gaines Adams DE, Clemson. Tampa's defensive glory days are behind them and they have to rebuild. Getting a quick pass rusher like Adams would help.

4. Cleveland Browns: JaMarcus Russell QB, LSU. Very reminiscent of Daunte Culpepper in terms of his physical build and arm strength. Frye is not getting it done in Cleveland and Russell will take over eventually.

5. Arizona Cardinals: Joe Thomas OT, Wisconsin. Easiest pick to predict in the draft. The Cardinals needs help at offensive line. Hopefully, Thomas will give the Cardinals the flexibility to move Leonard Davis back to his guard position.

6. Washington Redskins: Leon Hall CB, Michigan. The Redskins have a terrible defense as they are in the bottom ten in rush and pass yards allowed. It is alluring to take Calvin Johnson despite their current receivers, but the defense is in dire need.

7. Minnesota Vikings: Calvin Johnson WR, Georgia Tech. Although Minnesota's secondary woes are worse than their receiving corps problems, Calvin Johnson gets taken. It's amazing that he falls this low in the draft to begin with! He is simply too good to pass up on. He may be the next Moss or T.O. minus the egotism.

8. Houston Texans: LaRon Landry S, LSU. Fans will not be particularly happy to see Houston take another defensive player, but the secondary needs some serious help.

9. Miami Dolphins: Troy Smith QB, Ohio State. The Dolphins must decide whether or not to commit to Daunte Culpepper. If they don't, then Troy Smith is the likely pick at pick 9

10. Atlanta Falcons: Dwayne Jarrett WR, USC. Vick needs more than Alge Crumpler to throw the pigskin to next season. Jarrett has the size and hands to be a great receiver.

11. San Francisco 49ers: Quentin Moses DE, Georgia. Based on pure talent alone, he'd be the best defensive lineman in the draft. But inconsistent play has plagued him, thus pushing him down the board. The 49ers lacked a true pass rusher last season and Moses will fill that gap.

12. Buffalo Bills: Levi Brown OT, Penn State. I've seen this guy play in person before and he's the real deal. Hopefully, he can aid a struggling offensive line and provide better protection for Losman's blind side.

13. St. Louis Rams: Reggie Nelson S, Florida. Defense has always been a problem with the Rams and Nelson could possibly be the best secondary playmaker in the draft.

14. Carolina Panthers: Paul Posluszny LB, Penn State. The Panthers could use improvement at most positions, but they may be losing their defensive edge a bit. Paul is a natural leader with a great mind for the game.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers: LaMarr Woodley DE/LB, Michigan. A "tweener" like Woodley is a perfect fit into the Steelers 3-4 defense.

16. Green Bay Packers: Marshawn Lynch RB, LSU. A surprising no-brainer for the Packers. Odds are the injury-prone Ahman Green will not be returning to Green Bay for another season, which makes a versatile back like Lynch a likely pick.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars. Patrick Willis LB, Mississippi. Jags have a glaring hole around their front seven. A tackling machine like Willis could be a good fit at middle linebacker.

18. Cincinatti Bengals: Alan Branch DT, Michigan. An absolute steal at pick 18. The Bengals need a run stuffer and this guy is arguably the best DT in college football.

19. Tennessee Titans: Ted Ginn Jr. WR, Ohio State The playmaker that the Titans desperately need. Vince Young now has the best offensive playmaker in college football to throw to. He will also double over as a great kick and punt returner as well.

20. New York Giants: Marcus McCauley CB, Fresno State. The retirement of Tiki Barber leaves a gaping hole at running back, but beyond Peterson and Lynch, the RB class is pretty shallow. The Giants lack a true shutdown cornerback and their pass defense has struggled because of it.

21. Denver Broncos: Michael Griffin S, Texas. With Lynch aging and the death of Darrent Williams, the Broncos are hurting at their secondary.

22. New England Patriots (via Seattle): Jeff Samardzija WR, Notre Dame. If Jeff can commit to football, then he will be a great addition to a weak Patriots receiving core. He is a great route runner and has exceptional hands.

23. Dallas Cowboys: Justin Blalock, OT/OG Texas. The Cowboys offensive line is terrible. Even a more mobile quarterback like Romo couldn't keep away from the rush. Blalock is a versatile offensive lineman that can play guard or tackle in the NFL.

24. Kansas City Chiefs: Sidney Rice WR, South Carolina. The Chiefs finally address the lack of a playmaking wide receiver. Eddie Kennison can only do so much. Rice was on fire towards the end of the college season.

25. New Orleans Saints: Amobi Okoye, DT Louisville. The Saints are painfully weak against the run and Okoye may be the best run stopper in the draft.

26. New York Jets: Kenny Irons RB, Auburn. Leon Washington cannot carry the ball 25 to 30 times per game and Kevan Barlow and Cedric Houston have been mediocre at best.

27. Philadelphia Eagles: Lawrence Timmons, Florida State. The Eagles could not stop the run last season and need somebody opposite Jeremiah Trotter to help out. Look no further than a playmaker like Timmons.

28. New England Patriots: Tom Zbikowski S, Notre Dame. It's official. Rodney Harrison is old. He's been particularly injury-prone the last few seasons and the Patriots must plan for the future. Zbikowski is a good late 1st to early 2nd round pick to develop.

29. Indianapolis Colts: Quinn Pitcock DT, Ohio State. The third best defensive tackle is around at this stage of the draft and Indy should take him and hope he improves their horrid run defense.

30. Baltimore Ravens: Drew Stanton QB, Michigan State. McNair won't be around for too long and Boller has turned out to be a bust. Stanton has a huge upside and could serve as a good replacement for McNair when a retires in a couple of years.

31. Chicago Bears: Zach Miller TE, Arizona State. Grossman needs an intermediate threat to help his consistency. Desmond Clark has been serviceable, but is not the pass catching TE that Miller is.

32. San Diego Chargers: Dwayne Bowe WR, LSU. The Chargers need a top receiver badly and this guy is the best of the bunch.

I've seen worse trades in my day. Vick seems like the kind of guy Al Davis likes; he has a strong arm and can run.

Oakland trading down to #3 makes a ton of sense to me. They don't want a QB, and Johnson and Peterson should be there at #3. BTW, I think Russell goes #1 overall now.

In my mock draft, I considered putting Russell as the first pick. But I don't think Al Davis could pass up on a sure thing like Adrian Peterson. Developing a QB takes time and it would be a long run decision. Al Davis is as old as the hills and his "Just win baby!" mentality could not be any more true.

Joe Thomas is obviously a prized pick, but Tampa's defense just continues to lose all of their star players. Sapp left. John Lynch left. Booger McFarland is gone. Simeon Rice will probably be leaving. They will have very little good defensive players on their team. Monte Kiffin, one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL, can only do so much.

Why draft Peterson? RB might be the only offensive position where the Raiders are decent. If they don't draft Thomas or a QB: LOL.

Neither Jordan nor Vargas had spectacular years. Jordan has a decent 2005, but nothing particularly groundbreaking. Furthermore, Jordan tore his ACL. That injury is capable of ruining or completely stopping NFL careers. Ki-Jana Carter tore his ACL and couldn't fulfill his potential. Gale Sayers destroyed his knee and ended up retiring early.

Al Davis is an old man and he won't be around much longer. Drafting a lunchpail player like Joe Thomas or spending years developing a QB like Brady Quinn isn't an option. Adrian Peterson is the best RB in the draft and can provide an immediate impact on the Raiders. Al Davis can then look through the free agent market for an already established, experienced quarterback to take the helm.

The Raiders have the world upon their fingertips this April. I believe that they will pick Peterson. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Quinn or Russell picked first overall.

Adrian Peterson won't do [censored] behind that offensive line. No one will. If they don't fix that nothing else really matters. Taking a RB with the first pick is usually a waste anyway. I wouldn't mind them drafting a QB if they thought there would be multiple valuable o-linemen available in later rounds, though.

I shouldn't have said they were decent at RB though, least bad is more accurate. If they fix problems elsewhere the running game will be fine.
