If Philly does this right, they could be in a very good place in 3 years. [/ QUOTE ] Crap. Philly has never done things right. |

[ QUOTE ]
tl;dr But Denver now has 2 of the top 10 players in the league. That's enough to make a lot of noise. [/ QUOTE ] Camby should be thrown in the top X with this comment, not exactly where X is but camby is probaly #2 center in NBA behind Yao with Shaq out. No way Boykins starts he is having about his worst year in a long time. J.R. Smith wont change much, he shoots open 3's and finsishes fast breaks AI shouldn't disrupt that. It will be difficult for him to keep as many minutes since he guards noone. I think Denver underestimated how good A. Miller was on that team. Carmelo loved playing with him, he could defend the tough guards, and kept their tempo up. Everyone saying Philly should take Oden I have a couple questions for you? 1. How do you take a couple 20's picks and somehow get a top 2 pick? 2. Why give Dalembert a 67 million dollar contract to take the same player,in Oden, who is more talented? But then again this is what Philly does. Have AI2 then take the exact same player in Carney with their first pick. If they can get Dequan Cook at pick 20 it will be a steal, since he is top 3 talent, just overshadowed by Oden. |

[ QUOTE ]
Didn't read all the threads, but no real contender can start a 5'5 SG as a point guard. This trade really requiers a follow up trade for some sort of a pass first PG. You have too many triger happy players on the same backcourt (AI+JR+Melo+Boykins). [/ QUOTE ] Melo plays the 3 and on the block a lot. AI and Smith will be the primary backcourt. This is conceptually AI for Andre. Either way, Camby is an excellent off the ball defender and Earl can slow down penetration. Obviously they don't let Earl get posted up. They also play a lot of zone with Earl on the floor. The Nugs run. Karl disfavored Dre because he didn't push the pace enough. They will run more with AI. They don't do much from the halfcourt other than penetration w/ kickout to JR or to Camby off his high pick, alley oops and Melo on the wing. AI is a better shooter and on the drive than Miller. The shots will be there in transition. Melo is not trigger happy and has done a great job of passing out of double teams and taking good shots. He typically gets the ball towards the end of the shot clock anyway. AI averaged averaged 7.3 assists this year playing with a far less offensively talented team. Dre averaged 9.1 assists per 35 minutes, I don't doubt AI can see that in his 40 minutes a night. |

[ QUOTE ]
Last year Iverson shot nearly 45 percent shooting nearly 25 times per game on a horrible team (non-playoff team in the East). He also dished out 7.4 assists per game, and despite dominating the ball so much, only turned the ball over 3.4 times per game. He is an unbelievable talent, and all of you defining his game by shooting percentage should go back to talking about JD Drew's OBP+ in some baseball thread. [/ QUOTE ] Nice post GKA - this commentary with this Great Simmons Article on AI should be stickied for all the AI haters out there (not necessarily in this thread, just in general). There's question marks for Denver obviously, but give me a f'in break - they just traded for motherf'in Allen Iverson! [ QUOTE ] Ugh, hey what a great idea lets make the West even tougher! [/ QUOTE ] Seriously this is just ridiculous. -Al |

[ QUOTE ]
"Only" 3.4 was fifth highest in the league. And this doesn't have much to do with whether or not the shots he takes go in. [/ QUOTE ] This is silly. Philly was horrible last year. Who is going to handle the ball the most on a horrible team? Obviously the best player, AI, so teams focus on him, and double team him, which of course results in more tough situations for AI, ergo tons of TO's. Even still, the guy who the offense runs through will handle it the most, and will inevitably make the most TO's. ALSO, OMGZ! NASH WAS #3, THE MVP LOLZ OMGZ SAYITAINTSO! DWADE, PIERCE, LEBRON, AND ARENAS ALL IN THE TOP 6, OMGZ WORST PLAYERS EVER!!!!!!1 |

Victor,
a lot of teams like to balance their lineups by having a scorer (generally teams 3rd or 4th best player) come off the bench. this player still gets the same amount of minutes, it just makes it so you aren't running plays for guys like eduardo najera and reggie evans offensively. the celtics used to do this with ricky davis, the bulls do it with ben gordon, phoenix do this with barbosa, etc. |

gka,
obv puttin jr on the bench makes the bench better. just bc the bench is better doestn mean they have more depth. |
