Phil: Man, I saw you had posted here and was wondering what jam-style band you would pick! DMB is actually a decent choice.

PB: Word.

Wonder: Bush, nice.

JB and others: Yeah, AC/DC slightly on the harder side of qualifying for this thread, but a good pick.

Peachy: Third Eye Blind and probably Tom Petty, yeah. I would say VH and Lifehouse are too sappy-crappy to qualify (unlike other crappy bands listed previously that do qualify) and I don't know the other two.

RDH: Boston, nice, 'cept they also snuck in some real garbage.

Smiley: Oasis, nice.

C: Nice call on The Pixies, though I guess they have a little stuff edging towards the too-alternative side to be a top contender, but they def qualify.

El D,

If AC/DC is too hard, I'll have to go with Lynryd Skynryd. I'm not a huge fan, but they're certainly a very consistent rock band.

Your inclusion/exclusion criteria is all effed up if the Pixies qualify but The Police don't.

Also, The Kinks is the best one listed so far. Great call.

wtf, AC/DC is a LOCK. It's the first thing that came to mind. They consistently rock.

Also, you have a huge boner for the Foo Fighters

El D,

'Best' is a tough category. For 'Musically Proficient', it's fairly easy:

Hard Rock: Alice in Chains

Rock/Pop (?): Stone Temple Pilots

Punk: Greenday

1975-1980: Aerosmith

Obviously all the 'style' bands of the 80's like G&R, AC/DC, etc. are nominees, but I personally rate The Scorpions much higher than any of those when it comes to musical talent. Clearly a sleeper but those Germans really do know how to rock. Buy their 'best of' album if you don't believe me.

Blind Melon: If God needed a singing voice...

Third Eye Blind: Highly talented and vastly under-appreciated. Every song is good.

Killers: Love every single song in their catalog

Jimmy Eat World: Even their old [censored] is good.

other nominations: weezer, metallica, the doors, all-american rejects (GOING TO SEE THEM IN VEGAS TOMORROW!!)....
