the guy spends his life schmoozing and dealing with high maintenance people...I think he definitely has the skillset to become an excellent ambassador if he gets into it.

So. Before the ME began, I had a list of people I hoped would win the WSOP, obviously speaking from a "Good for the game" point of view. I wanted a woman to win. I wanted a teenager to win. I wanted someone good looking to win. I wanted a poker celebrity to win. I wanted a poker pro celebrity to win. I wanted a complete retard to win. Here's what I didn't want to win: Anyone old Anyone who didn't speak english Anyone who didn't want to represent the game Anyone rich Anyone who represented themself very poorly at the table Anyone who would cause "average people" to dislike them at the table. Jamie Gold is middle aged. I think an [censored] at the table. Nobody has ever heard of him. He's not good looking. He's not a chick. He doesn't want to represent the game(ala Raymer). Could anyone worse have won? Am I really off here? I just don't see this guy attracting ANYONE new to the game. [/ QUOTE ] The best way to solve this dilemma is to win the 2007 WSOP yourself, so someone young, charismatic, incredibly good looking and with wonderful poker table manners can represent the poker world. Sidenote: Someone who speaks English? Sounds like the Ku Klux Klan needs to cover your buy-in next year. |

I think he will be fine for the game, of course a hot chick is the best case scenario, I strongly (dis)agree with Zbt that the winner has to be young. A young hot shot winning the me probably puts off a lot of the older gentlemen who want to play the game recreationally. I really think a young college aged interney pheonem would merely be meh for the game. After a woman winning it, or a well known charismatic pro, the next best thing for poker would be someone like Rizen winning the me. Someone who has had success online and better yet has won the stars million yet is a laid back unpretentious family man would be absolutely amazing for the game.

Please, am i going to have to go another year hearing how lucky the WSOP winner was, how he caught cards, he's really a 5/10 donk on Pokerstars, etc.., etc.., etc..., Please, as a mod of the forum, give it a rest. Yes, the winner was not Doyle Brunson. Yes, the winner caught some cards, which every winner for the past 30 years has done except for the time everyone just blinded themselves off so Doyle could win. Is there any other way to win without catching cards? |

[/ QUOTE ] I've stated several times within the initial post, and in subsequent posts that I don't have anything AGAINST people who don't speak english. But it's pretty tough to market a non-english speaking person to the masses. Most online software is written in English, most of the player base speaks English, etc. If you read my later posts, they explain that I was only speaking from a "future of the game" point of view here. Not a personal opinion on who I like more. I said this in my initial post, but evidentally people didn't see it, or mis-read it. |

When you end up having to defend yourself to this many people, it's a good bet that you could have expressed yourself a little more clearly in the first place.
