[ QUOTE ]
Worst play ever. I'd likely either fold to the 3k, or call (getting 3:1) and hope for a Q or a K, either of which I'd push allin for and expect him to fold. [/ QUOTE ] A player under the gun raises to $150. Jarret McMillan re-raises to $400. Michael Hasday, in the big blind, makes it $3,900 to go. The under the gun player goes all-in while McMillan folds. Hasday makes the call and shows AA. The under the gun player shows QQ and McMillan mucks K-K. The board comes KJ3210, and Michael Hasday eliminates an opponent and boosts his stack to $22,400. McMillan folded the winning hand. Are you staying with your "worst play ever" contention in light of this? |

having kk with 2 other players raising and re-rasing.. one of the has to have aces. meaning the kk has a less likely chance of winning against a person with aa and another with xx...
good fold. under the circumstances. |

[/ QUOTE ] It's obviously a good fold if you're up against AA. But, KK vs. AA vs. QQ is better than KK vs. AA. You'd much rather have 17.4% equity in a $30,000 pot than 18.1% equity in a $20,000 pot. Can we avoid the Day 1A trend of posting everything 3-5 times per page as soon as it's on the wire? (Like on THIS PAGE)
There's no prize for posting this stuff first guys, check before hand to see if you've been beaten to it. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. The $3900 raise is a massive overbet, and then there's an all-in behind it. It's half an hour in, so unless both are proven maniacs, I'm mucking the KK here. You're winning about a fifth of the time and getting 2:1 on your money. Of course, I borrow a revolver and put a bullet in my head when a K flops. |

Yes, absolutely. I think it's an easier fold here, though, because I have a much easier time putting one of these guys on AA.

I think there are enough maniacs out there who would be betting like crazy with pocket T's or 7's or AK or something silly that it is +EV to call with KK.
but on the very first hand with zero reads I wouldn't blame someone for folding. Somebody mentioned 'thinking about it' the rest of the time you're out there. I still think about my KK vs. AA hand from last freaking year. Early in 2nd level I had just doubled-up to about 18.5 or 19k or so (hit a set of Q's on the flop and AA calls my all-in). 10 minutes later I get KK. Pretty tight UTG opens for 3x to $300. I raise to $1k. He re-raises to $5k. I've got him covered and he has seen me be pretty aggressive (splashing around in quite a few pots already) so I push and just have fingers-crossed for an AK or QQ. He calls with AA of course and my $18.5k immediately becomes $6.5k. I still think I could have gotten away from it if I hadn't thought so much about my own image at the table to that point. The first WSOP hand I ever played: $3k NLHE event last year. Only 4 players (everyone else running a bit late). CO opens (I fold on button), BB calls. Flop comes 976. Both players bet like crazy and eventually get all-in. CO has T8, BB has 99. CO's straight holds-up. All heads turn as dealer calls-out "Seat Open." Crazy stuff happens. |
