That forum is a complete joke, and yet you say its doing great. When the only reason it even has any traffic right now is because a few people got pissed off by the culling. great forum, just awesome.

MEb,

That people who want to post OT on 2+2, but can't stand the OOT Mod supported/encouraged drama, have a place they are comfortable posting, and thus stick around... this alone is reason to declare TLDR a great forum.

If the forums attempts to define itself simply by not being OOT- it's not going to work. It needs more obvious vision and clarity. I think this is sort of what was pointed out by Ed D/kipin's little rampage a few days ago.

It shouldn't be about avoiding drama. IMO it's about a more detailed long forum discussion. Part of this is that the content that should be in LOL/OOT isn't there, simply because it doesn't fit that description.

but thats not what the forum was created for, it was created for long discussion, something i see almost none of in there. If you want a place for those people, many of which were trolls anyways just go ahead and call your forum pussy-OOT, but the way things have been handled in there recently is absolutely horrible. It's one thing, its another, and its never what it actually says it is.

"The Lounge: Discussion and Review"

Work it out. A dictionary might help.

Or better yet read the FAQ. Keep the dictionary though, in case the long words confuse you.

[/ QUOTE ]

get off your [censored] high horse. theres no discussion and review going on there, its a bunch of little list threads full of one line responses. Do you even read your own forum?

[/ QUOTE ]

Lol. Okay, I'll quit teasing.

Well, here's the first 5 threads at the moment.

Doctor-assisted suicide?
Your favorite painters and their work.
Looking for art
Your favorite U.S. city and why...
Miscellaneous Life Skills

Which of these 5 fit your description of no discussion please? And which ones don't?

Thanks in anticipation, db

If I can quote a poster who gets it a little better than you, 'I think forum is much better now than is was when you seemingly lost your mind over the weekend. Some really unique and interesting threads'

that was [censored] posting in public, btw.

Doctor-assisted suicide? (politics thread)
Your favorite painters and their work. (one liner-list thread)
Looking for art (omg 1 thread in your top 5 that actually is what your forum is meant to be for, you're right it is in great shape)
Your favorite U.S. city and why...(one liner-list thread)
Miscellaneous Life Skills (one liner-list thread)

The point above all is that in its current state your forum is useless. The above 5 threads would have all gotten just as good of a response in OOT or politics. Yet despite this you're happy to sit on your hands and proclaim your forum is great.

The fine discussion and review currently taking place in TL;DR

March of the Penguins

OP
[ QUOTE ]
Anyone seen this movie? I was sick last week and watched it with the old lady. Sorry if there has already been a thread about it, but I wanted to see what others thought of it.

I really liked it. It made me glad I'm not a penguin, that's for sure. There was also some really quality footage as well.

Response
[ QUOTE ]

I rented it and watched it sober and it was not entertaining. I'm sure it's a masterpiece [censored] up, though.

*sigh*

Can;t be bothered to waste time on you, so I'll pick one subject, and the discussion ends AFAIC.

doctor-assisted suicide. Read the thread. If you really think this subject is the domain of politics rather than ethics/health/culture, you are small-minded in the extreme.

Please, any of you mods read it, and tell me if you think it's all about politics.

I pretty much agree with Dids here about the role and place of TLR. As I've told diebitter several times in PM, the forum won't work if it's simply a clean version of OOT. While I'm sure that there'd be traffic from the handful of posters sick of OOT, I think it would ultimately hurt the forums. Redundant forums just don't work well.

While the notion of LOL/OOT/TLR may take some time to sink in for posters, I think fairly clear lines will eventually emerge between what is a low/no-content post (LOL), a normal list/discussion thread (OOT) and an in-depth or long-term discussion thread (TLR).

While I disagree with MEbenhoe saying there's been NO in-depth discussion (there has), the OOT drama and diebitter's indecision about what TLR truly is has caused a lot of content that doesn't fit the mold of an in-depth/long-term discussion forum to end up in TLR over the past week.

I think saying that the forum is just fine and great right now just isn't true. It's going to take some time to actively educate posters what constitutes an adequate TLR thread. While there are more and more non-A&E threads, there need to be more (Food and Drinkers!) to demonstrate it's not A&E under a different name.

I'm new, so I'm largely just going to watch for spammers, personal attacks, the obvious stuff for a little bit, and try to lead by continuing the threads I've started there (both of which I need to post new additions to soon [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]). But IMO, I think it may end up requiring mods to actively lock/move created threads that are unlikely to generate in-depth or long-term discussion.

To me, it's easy to see the difference between hypothetical threads like "Clarkmeister's Wine-tasting Log" or "Evaluate your favorite wines" and "What's a good wine to go with X meal?" but it might be difficult for posters to see that difference unless the thinner, more rapid-fire threads get locked/moved.

MEb/Dids,

TLDR is the type of forum that will be defined by its posters (and the way it is Modded)... the way this forum was created, as a split from OOT (along with LOL), rather than a Topic driven new forum creation (and yes, I think there is a big difference), demands it.

This is why, and many here did not get it, when I made the forum reorganization/Category expansion recomendation... that I suggested there be an OOT category, in addition to an OT category. TLDR is at its core an OOT type forum... it does not have a Topic that is its focus, therefore it is not an OT forum, it is an OOT forum... it is differentiated from the main OOT in its style of posts, attitude of posters and how it will be modded, etc.
