I'm not sure how well Ender's Game would work as a movie. In the right hands it's a cinch, but I still see it difficult. [/ QUOTE ] The hardest part seems like it would be finding a ton of great child actors. An Ender's Game movie has been in the works for years; I'm sure it will come out eventually. |

I'll add The Long Walk by Stephen King [/ QUOTE ] This would be great, and it really seems like the type of King (Bachman) that would translate well to the screen. |

The Player of Games by Ian M. Banks.
and The Algebraist, same Author. I don't think either of them would be possible, though. Both books are in my Top10 list and the way this guy tells a story is simply brilliant. |

Wow, great ideas here.
The Dark Tower series and Martin's Song of Fire and Ice would make for amazing HBO series. And oddly enough 1fog, a friend of mine who films documentaries and sports events had actually looked into the possibilities of doing The Long Walk as an artistic (meanging cheap) film. Unfortunately well into discussions we hit the stumbling block of trying to find, at the least, 6 competent teen actors who could work for next to nothing. It's still a dream of mine, but likely won't happen. |

My War : Killing Time in Iraq by Colby Buzzell. Hopefully it would be done better than Jarhead, which was a great book but at best an OK movie.

Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. If you haven't read it, you should. [/ QUOTE ] Great book, and I think it could be made into a good movie, but more likely would be desecrated into a Hollywood cheap action flick. |

Foundation. Even though it sounds like a complete disaster, I'm going to make the assumption in this thread that it would be some genius director that could do it right. I wouldn't mind taking creative liberties by expanding the dialogue. Star Wars stole a little bit of its thunder with Coruscant = Trantor, but still, I'd love to see the Seldon, Hardin, and the Mule onscreen. Plus they could get a gazillion sequels out of it. [/ QUOTE ] I think Asimov's robot series would translate well to the big screen. I, Robot that starred Will Smith was based on some of Asimov's short stories, not his 6 book robot series (The Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun, The Robots of Dawn, Robots and Empire, Prelude to Foundation, and Foundation and Earth). Oddly enough, Asimov ties the Robot series to his Foundation series in the end. |

Oddly enough, Asimov ties the Robot series to his Foundation series in the end. [/ QUOTE ] My obsession with all things Asimov rivals only Dominic's. I've heard a lot of different things about "I, Robot". I'm under the impression that some form of the original movie had nothing to do with Asimov, but that they integrated Susan Calvin, The Laws of Robotics, etc, later on. So the result was a hybrid. Some Asimov fans didn't like I, Robot, but I liked it for what it was. It was an exploration of the implications of The Laws of Robotics, in the spirit of Asimov. Similar to the Zeroth law. Caves of Steel would translate well (I think an attempt was made in the 60's?), but the problem is the "Mystery" part of it hasn't stood the test of time. If any movie were made, I think they might even want to give away whodunit somewhat before the end. Or maybe not, I dunno, but they have to do something to avoid people leaving and saying "That was the most formulaic mystery ever". The focus of that movie should be the vision of future Earth, the robot tensions, the contrast to the Spacers, etc. That's how I think of it anyway. I don't think rights with the Asimov estate are a big hangup. I really can't believe none of this has been done yet! |
