I remember when I first started I deposited $55 thinking this is really all I can afford to lose and when it's gone, I'm done. Fast forward to last week when I was down almost a grand and it really didn't worry me too much.
I remember when I thought 100 SNG's would give me an accurate ROI estimate I remember when I first started out playing poker, I was such a noob and knew so little that I paused the part of Rounders at the beginning of the movie to try to see what poker books he owned. Then I went to amazon.com and bought them!! |

I remember when I won $60 at 50 hands of 1/2 6-max limit as a 70/1/0.5 and thinking I was a poker god.
I remember when 20BB pots were the norm at all stakes of LHE on Pacific. I remember when 50BB stacks were the norm at Party NL. |

[/ QUOTE ] are you talking about the 2002 change? that was a fight. fyi to those that don't know, this forum existed long before the 2002 reg. dates you see on many posters. we had a usenet style forum that we thought was the nuts. it would be unmanageable today (if it is not already obsolete). |

......which I believe was the 1st online site (back in the mid-90's) on which you could actually 'play' poker with live, real-time action.
It was a Scandiavian site (play money only) and I've really never had so much fun in my life playing poker. Some quite famous players played there. It's where I first met Greg R. Fossilman, Rimbeau, Pepsi, Livestraddle, Jody, King380, Splayer, Santa Claus, Dislecsick, Fred, Wilma, TahoeMom, Illusions, Slick, BEER, Cola, Patty, Cyclops, Toeup, Data1, Capt. Jack ..........the list goes on & on. Most players had multiple ID's. All was fair.....No censorship in the chat box, and some of the most creative cursing on the face of the earth occured there! Intrigue abounded. If you went bust, you got another 1K in chips to start again. You could 'build a BR' by going to a 1 on 1 table with a buddy, and going all-in every time, going bust, get another 1K and do it again....and again. It was all in fun, but there were some fearsomely good players on the site. One Christmas I decided to write a litty diddy that goes to the cadence of The Night Before Christmas. I'll share it here and perhaps it will give you a sense of the zaniness that went on every day on good ole Funcom.... Funcom Christmas Eve T’was the night before Christmas, when all throughout Funcon There were few players stirring, not even TahoeMom The chips were all stacked in neat piles everywhere In the hopes that they’d grow large, How? Nobody cared! Most players were nestled, all snug in their beds While visions of “board locks” danced in their heads! And Wilma in her kerchief, and Fred in his cap Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap; When out in the lobby, there arose such a clatter, Fred sprang from the table, to see what was the matter. Away from the table, he flew like a flash, Tripped over his chair, and fell on his ass! And what to his wondering eyes did he see? No miniature sleigh, but his nibs, old Pepsi! More rapid than eagles, his courses they came, He cursed and he whistled, and called them by name Now Stealth, Now Illusions; Now Slick and old Gal, Now Fossil, Now Toeup; Now king and Datal; He made a new table, and issued the call, Come play here with me, I’ll 980 you all! So with chips in the millions to the table they flew, All of the big stacks; to see what they could do! Swearing like troopers, amid flying barbs, Bluffing and chasing, in quest of great cards; And the rest of the site was still playing away, Never missing a beat; always plenty to say! The characters vary: there are all kinds here, Rat bastards, the sweethearts, the morons, and [BEER]! The good guys; the bad guys: all playing at funcom; The pro’s & the pikers, virgins & sharpies The rocks & the foxes: the chattering magpies; Some funny, some crazy; some pains in the asses Most decent & thoughtful, not too many Slaz’s! It takes all such kinds to make up this site, And Santa will visit each and all tonight; He sees all and knows all and writes it all down, He’ll leave good stuff for the nice ones, and coal for the clowns! One last thought for us all on this Christmas Eve nite, If you’re gonna play poker, you’d better play right! No whining, No crying; we’re big boys & girls here, Stop pissing & moaning; learn what your fold button’s for! It’s not life & death here: it’s only play money, So keep that in mind and turn funcom into funny! |
