But also, Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper are outstanding as well. As former players, they have a great feel for the game and Krukow is usually spot on on his pitching analysis. They can be "homers" every once in awhile, but Kruk can make a boring or out of reach game enjoyable. My wife isn't a huge baseball fan, but she does like watching games where they are announcing. So I'll say they have cross-over appeal as well.

Spot on about Kuiper and Krukow. They also have some good schtick when the game is slow.

The Harry Caray fans like the Will Ferrell portrayal more than they liked Caray.

[censored]. Ferrell's Harry sucked. The one time I actually thought he was funny was when he was on the "SportsCenter" Hot Seat and gave his impression of Harry calling the Steve Bartman play ("Somebody find that guy . . . and string him up!").

Joe Morgan is literally incapable of understanding important components of the game he once dominated.

[/ QUOTE ]

My least favorite thing about Morgan (from a long list of annoying characteristics) is the way he inserts himself into everything he comments on. "When I talked to Barry Bonds, Barry told me..." "Like I've always said, Dave Burba is the best pitcher in baseball..."

I like Kevin Callabro (sp?), the Seattle Sonics announcer. And of course Vin Scully's the man. Listening to his call of the bottom of the 10th inning, Game 6, 1986 World Series, in the RBI Baseball version reminded me just how great he is.

I guess this as good a place as any to make my first post.

I'm shocked no one's put Jon Sterling up here for his sheer hilarity at calling Yankee games (I'm a Yankee fan, btw). His calls are so absurd that Mike and The Mad Dog rip on him pretty much every day and laugh at his calls from the previous day's game.

As a fan of the Evil Empire, I pretty much only watch Yankees games, and occasionally the ESPN Sunday night games. I like the vast majority of you think Joe Morgan is somewhat brain-damaged, but not to the extent of Tim McCarver...I want to vomit every time I hear his voice. Anywho, the point of this is to name my favorite announcer. Though he's not technically an announcer, Jim Kaat as an analyst for Yankees home games is as good as it gets for me. He has a ton of insight into what's going on in the game and makes you feel like you're learning something. Plus he doesn't make idiot comments like Ken Singleton or Bobby Mercer.

Marv Albert

If you grew up with Clyde, Willis, DeBusschere et al its hard to like anyone better. I'll even excuse his "Final Cut" cameo.
