I would prefer it if all matches were 5 rounds so that endurance is a bigger factor and fewer decisions.

I know all these guys are trained badasses, but 5 rounds of fighting at that skill level is INSANE IMO. You're gonna be ridiculously tired.

As much as I'd love to see Royce win, Hughes in a decision. Nix rounds, and no time limit, maybe Gracie. But MMA has evolved quite a bit and there's no way Royce takes this one.

It has a built in solution. If somebody can't handle it, the match is over. Championship matches go five, they handle it. Its doable.

I'm surprised they go three.

Come to think of it though, most of them don't look as tired as boxers do sometimes. I guess they're in better shape.

I prefer the Pride structure of one 10minute round and two 5minute rounds

Anyone else prefer it when fights go to a decision? My friends think I'm crazy for thinking this way.

[/ QUOTE ]

WTF... did you see UFC 59? It went to decision and one judge scored it 30-27 Ortiz over Griffen. I quote Dana White, that they "should never be allowed to score a fight again".

Without a decision, you know damn well who won the fight. Close fights are fine, as long as someone gets KTFO by the end.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah they definitely have to work on their scoring system coz the winner doesn't seem the one who does the most damage or walks away the most energetic.

But,
"you have to remember that in the eyes of the UFC judges, takedowns are much more valuable than sprawls or submission attempts. A perfect example of this is a decision won by Matt Hughes over Renato Verissimo. Verissimo was dominating Hughes the entire fight throwing up submission after submission, but Hughes landed several takedowns and was in top position the whole time. Hughes scored a 30-27 unanimous decision." - MMAfighting.com

So the judges score according to the criteria they are given, thus the criteria has to be changed.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would prefer it if all matches were 5 rounds so that endurance is a bigger factor and fewer decisions. If someone can survive a barage from an agressive opponent, they should have the opportunity to submit them later.

[/ QUOTE ]

I read that Rich Franklin trains for five fifteen minute rounds and has trained his body is such a way that he can go from max heart rate to resting heart rate in 45 seconds. This is why he looks like brand new after the Tanner fight, IMO... plus the fact that Tanner couldn't cut him

The second Tanner fight was amazing ... Tanner absolutely schpedoinked him with a vicious right in the first round and it appeared that Franklin's eyes were clear in about 30 seconds. Then he went on to completely dominate the fight.

That was a shot that would've certainly ended the fight against a lot of other fighters.

hughes is going to want to keep this one of his feet, or on top through semi open guard. As strong a wrestler as Matt is, gracie BJJ is just to strong. Goes to the ground into gracies guard fights over or goes to a decision which Matt will probably win. Only chance Hughes has on the ground is if he has side mount or full mount.
